On June 16th 1944, Luis Pérez Gómez, a Mexican pilot serving in the RCAF was shot down near the small Norman village of Sassy.

To-day he was honoured by the mayor of Sassy, the press chief of the Mexican Ambassy in France and his former Canadian girlfriend at the spot where his Spitfire was shot down, along another Spitfire of Pérez Gómez's squadron —443rd RCAF— flown by an unknown Canadian pilot who was shot down nearby.

This caught my eye when reading to-day's paper. Though you might be interested.

That is interesting ! I have a magizane article on the Mexican Air Force's use of the P-47 in the Phillipines but this is the first I heard of a person from Mexico being in the RCAF. I wonder what the Germans thought of him ?

Have a photo of the man, he was of completely European looks… wouldn't have made much of a difference if taken prissoner.

Tank, have I mentioned that a couple of weeks ago I met two veterans of tha 201st Squadron that fought in the Philippines? One was a P-47 pilot and the other two were mechanics.

I thought since he was shot down the Germans got him, but I guess he got away. I always heard the Mexicans down south look different. I have only seen "Mex-Tex" Mexicans and was thinking he looked like that after he was shot down.

What! No comment about joining the Zapitista Rebels ? Really good experience for writting more books and teaching history. Don't think it would help your singing much though.

Tank, I think I wasn't clear since the beginning of the thread… Luis Pérez Gómez was shot down and killed on June 16th 1944. He didn't make it. That's why he's buried in France.

Indeed, I'm not joining the EZLN (Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional, Zapatist Army for National Liberation) since it is everything but an army and everything but a guerrilla. Besides, I hate heath and humidity and wouldn't bear much time in the rainforest…

Besides, I'm a foreigner and a burgeois… they wouln't like me very much…

Hmmm, All this time I thought you were one of those brave Generals who led his army into battle at the front of his troops !! Now I see you are like one of those WWI French Generals who led from the rear, as far as he could get.

Yes that clears up things, I did not know the guy died.

Oh, I guess they wouldn't mind, at least until you'd start singing

German and Britiosh generals also commanded from their nice Louis XV chairs at their own Châteaux.
