Rare plane found in Russian lake arrives at Pensacola museum

BILL KACZOR

Associated Press

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The only Brewster Buffalo known to still exist has arrived at the National Museum of Naval Aviation after the American-made fighter was recovered from a lake in Russia where its pilot, a Finnish ace, was shot down in 1942.

The plane was well-preserved by the lake's icy waters. For that reason and because of its historic importance it will be exhibited as it was found.

Cool. Let's hope they are able to restore it to flight condition and pit it against an I-16, Zero and, some other adversaries! The results would be....interesting?

Good article Kai!

Air And Space Magazine's website has a detailed history of the Brewster Buffalo with information on its wartime service in Finland, Singapore, and Midway Island.
