Still more Japanese hiding in the jungle?
Guardian News Report
Seems there maybe some more Japanese soldiers still hiding out... One report says upto 40!
Its all a bit dubious but who knows...

Thanks for forwarding this article Red. It will be interesting to see what this may lead to in the coming days. To think that if it turns out to be true, that these men could survive for over 60 years hiding out in the jungles of the Philippines would be nothing short of amazing.

That is amazing. I wonder what the psychology is of people who can do things like that. Think of all the bugs they had to eat to stay alive.

Agreed jpatterson, as far as I understand, the term "Japs" is derogatory and I don't think it should be used. I think any member of the US 442nd Regimental Combat Team would agree with me too, so I edited the post.

Yes down, Tolands book does detail instances of Japanese soldiers hiding out in caves but I think what amazes the majority of us is that it has now been 60 years since the end of the war and these men must be at a minimum 75-78 years old if not older. The last reported instances of these men coming out of hiding I believe was on New Guinea in the late 70's or very early 80's and even that is 25 yrs ago. That even the possibility of of men still being out there after all this time seperated from their homeland and families for all this time is nothing short of amazing. It only takes me one look at my grandfather who served in North Africa, Italy and Southern France during the war to realize what absolute determination these men would have to have to still be out there.
