Outstanding article and wonderful idea. I think there should be something in the passes through the Pyrenees to memorialize the heroic resistance members that risked everything to help the escaping soldiers as well. Are there any memorials to the resistance movement? I know there are memorials to people that were killed in retalliation for resistance actions. I know of no monuments or memorials to the resistance supporters. Anyone?

I think there are, but I can't think of any offhand.
Actually, I'm wrong. I was on holiday in the Pas de Calais area back in June, and I noticed several memorial wall plaques to people shot by the Nazis in quite a few streets in St. Omer.
Also, in the V2 site at La Coupole, just outside St. Omer, there is a huge permanent exhibition to the victims of the Holocaust, and a large part of it is devoted to the story of civilian suffering in the Pas de Calais under the Occupation.

Yes, there are numerous monuments for those killed by the Nazi's or in reprisals, but just for the helpers....I can't think of one in Holland off the top of my head.

Next month I hope to meet a Canadian gent who has researched the Comete line in depth and is coming over for a reunion and the fact that his uncle's Halifax is being salvaged here in the Netherlands...
