The ship that my father served aboard during WWII in the Pacific, the APA 166 USS Gage, has been saved from being used for target practice and will be restored. It is the last APA still afloat in the configuration it was constructed in.

USS Gage

That really is very good news, bigiceman. I'm glad that some people have the resources and vision to undertake such a project.

( BTW, the photos of the 'Ghost Fleet' on that site are remarkable...)

I am glad they are going to try and save the ship but it sounds expensive. Hope they can pull it off. Has to take a few buckets of paint to paint a ship that size.

That is true TA. I think they were looking at about 10 million dollars. I don't know how much they have so far. Their first focus was on keeping it on the surface. The web pages from the society said that the ship was in good condition(conisidering) and that the parts that would be really hard to replace were still there.

I will be watching and doing my part to help financially. First the Katrina victims though.
