I just heard that Roger Freeman passed away at the age of 77.

Air War buffs will no doubt know him as the man who wrote several "bibles" on the air war in Europe. certainly one of the most respected researchers/historians of the ETO air war.

He will be missed.

Roger died on the 6th from cancer which he for at least a year, his works and research materials were sent to the heritage museum.

wonder why he didn't forward them to me

truthfully it is a sad loss for all of us interested in the day time air war activities over the Reich during WW 2

Exclamation

I'm very, very sorry to hear that - oddly enough, I was browsing through 'The Mighty Eighth' just this morning before checking the forum.

I bought 'TME' and 'Airfields Of The Eighth' in 1978, purchases which opened up a completely new world to me. I was so pleased to meet and talk with him at Boxted last year and will always treasure the copy of 'Wolfpack Warriors' which he personally inscribed. He was a most charming man.

He did so much to perpetuate and honour the memory of what the USAAF did 'over here'.

I came across this pic of B-17 Sally B performing a flypast at the Memorial Service for Roger Freeman late last month.

A fine tribute, and one that, I'm sure, Roger Freeman would have appreciated.
