That is a good story Gordon ! Here is a little more on 603 squadron. It says they shot down the first bomber of the war.

Not quite, TA. No.602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron is also credited with part of that kill (Think it's the Humbie Heinkel III they mean?).
It may have been the first bomber shot down over land, but 602 squadron shot down two JU-88A-1s into the Firth of Forth on 16th October 1939. 603 was also involved in that action.
