Very late this, but just found out via my father that Ted Shaw M.C. passed away last Summer at the age of 86. His ashes have been interred at Oosterbeek.

During the 60th Anniversary weekend in September 2004, my Dad and I came across Ted and his companion near the Kirkpaad in Oosterbeek.

He explained that the ditch we were standing next to was the one in which he had hidden in 1944 until a Luger-wielding German officer demanded that he get out.... the then Lt Ted Shaw was in charge of a six-pounder a/t gun at Arnhem and fought with great distinction to be awarded the Military Cross.

Ted answered all our questions with great charm, humour and modesty - although physically large, he gave a strong impression of gentleness and calm.

You can read about Ted's exploits at Arnhem in Martin Middlebrook's book ; Ted Shaw signed my copy on the spot and I'll treasure it always.

It was a real privilege to have met him. Truly, rest in peace.

RIP Mr Shaw

Also a couple of months ago, Graham 'Bluey' Scopes died, he was in 'A' Company of 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. I had the honour of meeting Mr Scopes in Holland on the 60th. I then wrote to him on my return and to my surprise he sent me a signed book about the city of Arnhem.

Its sad they are fading fast

Andy
