Strange they already have one; I should know I took a picture of it back in the 1970’s or 1980’s. As for the museum I was very disappointed on my second visit some six years ago no improvements made, displays were arranged badly apart from the WW1 section, and the decent bookshop they had now a dreadful cheap tacky shop. I found this to be a sad let down and I don’t intend to go back until they have a big shake up.
On a good note Duxford has improved over the years and I enjoy my visits there, Bovington could learn a few things from them.

This may be on its way - it's been announced in the specialist press that Bovington is inviting tenders to build a huge, multi-million pound new display hall.

Bovington is a stagnating museum at the moment, let's hope they bring it up to date with a Spartan and refreshing new look.

Just a word in defence of Bovington
Yes, it's a little run down but the collection is frankly superb. I Suspect Kubinka is it's only real rival, Aberdeen looks amazing but also appears to need even more improvement to stop it's collection finally rusting away. (they are currently loaning vehicles to museums worldwide in an attempt to preserve them.) Bovvy's been doing a lot of restoration recently as their fascinating website archive confirms. I'd always rather they put that a little ahead of shiny buildings.. I dread the day I visit and it's become as 'thin' as Imperial War Museum North.
Sorry for going on a bit but I just had to speak up in defence of a slightly scruffy old friend.
Cheers,
Adam.
(By the way, the Shrivenham KoenigsTiger is probably not staying, it's going up for 'Tankfest' and should make a nice contrast of a Henschel TigerII alongside the museums even rarer Porsche one. )

I like the old Swedish tanks and would go that direction instead of 'bigger is better'

Have you seen where the 'S' tank expels it's spent cases from? Makes me think of Vivian Stanshall 'Doing the Strain' as they fly from it's rear.
Good little film of one maeuvering hard here (no shots fired though) :

I would like to say that the Tank Museum is planning a major redevelopment. They have, like most museum's, just had to wait for funding to improve the display's. Having said that they still have a great collection. I actually had a chance to walk around the vehicles that haven't been restored while doing some research. Some great vehicle still waiting. Unfortuanatly it is all about money.
As to the King Tiger yeah they have one on display but is a Porsche turreted vehicle. This one is a Henschal turreted one. Both are owned by the museum, this one has been on permanent loan to the Defence Academy.

Mahross?
Have you heard anything of a rumour that there is a Koenigstiger being considered for full restoration in Britain at the moment? I hear occaisional references but nothing substantial, the very fact it's a Pz.VIB that's part of the rumour makes me more cynical, it would be a top choice for tank-nerd (myself included) wish fulfillment.
....hmmmmm... The Shrivenham one's in very complete condition..
(And if it's true wouldn't it be nice to get it alongside Saumur's runner )

I would just like to add I am not in any way knocking the tank collection at Bovington, I hope they make big improvements to the museum which are needed.

On Tigers, Tankfest, and a peek at the new Bovington.
A loose end.
The King Tiger under restoration is Kevin Wheatcroft's. He has c.80% of a vehicle collected and has apparently begun the process.
As for Bovington's tarting up, it's very much underway and though you can't yet get into the new building it looks like it's going to increase the diplay space greatly. I should perhaps have taken some pictures as it's impressive, I'm hoping they'll be able to display more of the ephemeral items in the collection.
The arena in front of the museum has also been improved greatly and there's now a great view from new banking when they're running the tanks.
