Tank Pulled Out of Lake
I received an interesting e-mail from a colleague. Supposedly it is a WWII German tank being pulled from a lake somewhere in Europe. Just pics with captions that look home made, not from a news service. Anyhow, I was immediately suspicious because it is definately not a German made tank, although it has German markings. Either that or it's Finnish. Looks like a T-34 to me .
Problem is, I don't know how and I don't think I have the capabilities to post the pics. So, if any of you out there are interested, give me a PM with an e-mail address and I'll forward it to you. Maybe one of you guys can post them here and I can hear some opinions on what it may be or whether it's bogus or not.
Thanks.

I'm always a dollar short. I sent the pics to Otto already. Oh well. I guess I was right, it is a T-34.

Re: Tank Pulled Out of Lake
I was just reading a site that Kai has provided a while ago, and I came across with this piece of information: "Sloped armor would have given the Tiger an even greater immune zone, but Hitler did not want the Tiger to reflect Russian T-34 design influences".
My initial response was literarily “WOW”.
Is this true?

Re: Tank Pulled Out of Lake
First time I hear about this. The Panther design was at inception heavily influenced by the T-34, someone even suggested in 1941 to make a straight copy.

I have heard this as well.
I've read that before Hitler saw it field tested, he almost got rid of the Sturmgewehr 44 because he wanted sub machine guns, not 'rifles.' Also, he didn't like the stamped metal and thought it ugly.

Apparently it was dumped after the fuel ran out, presumably beutepanzer got a lower priority than indigenous designs.
Certainly wasn't lack of Ammunition as I'm told she was fully laden... Russian woods, gun, ammo, wonder if they tried it?
(By the way, an excellent little site on beutepanzers here.)
Cheers,
Adam
