I'm not normally a great one for campaigning but isn't this worth at least a quick email to our local MPs?

Citation:

War Office, 9th November, 1944.

The KING has been graciously pleased to approve the award of the VICTORIA CROSS to:—

No. 10119 Rifleman Tulfoahadur Pun, 6th Gurkha Rifles, Indian Army.

In Burma on June 23rd, 1944, a Battalion - of the 6th Gurkha Rifles was ordered to attack the Railway Bridge at Mogaung. Immediately, the attack developed the enemy opened concentrated and sustained cross fire at close range from a position known as the Red House and from a strong bunker position two hundred yards to the left of it. So intense was this cross fire that both the leading platoons of " B " Company, one of which was Rifleman Tulbahadur Pun's, were pinned to the ground and the whole of his Section was wiped out with the exception of himself, the Section Commander and one other man. The Section Commander immediately led the remaining two men in a charge on the Red House but was at once badly wounded. Rifleman Tulbahadur Pun and his remaining companion continued the charge, but the latter too was immediately badly wounded.

Rifleman Tulbahadur Pun then seized the Bren Gun, and firing from the hip as he went, continued the charge on this heavily bunkered position alone, in the face of the most shattering concentration of automatic fire, directed straight at him. With the dawn coming up behind him, he presented a perfect target to
the Japanese. He had to move for thirty yards over open ground, ankle deep in mud, -through shell holes and over fallen trees. Despite these overwhelming odds, he reached the Red House and closed with the Japanese occupants. He killed three and put five more to flight and captured two light machine guns and much ammunition. He then gave accurate supporting fire from the bunker to. the remainder of his platoon which enabled them to reach their objective.

His outstanding courage and superb gallantry in the face of odds which meant
almost certain death were most inspiring to all ranks and were beyond praise.

Adam.

I agree, what stronger ties can anyone demonstrate than laying down one's life for king and country. Good luck to you British cousins. Form up and move out. Salute!

That reminds me of the story last year of how the US banned the singer Cat Stevens from coming to the US from the UK because he was deemed a homeland security threat.

From Daily Mail -
Quote:
Lawyers acting for Mr Pun, 84, along with 2,000 former Gurkhas, will appeal before the immigration courts in London in August.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1811
So its OK to let in Eastern European scum and criminals in to the country but when it come to people like Mr Pun who put his life on the line for this country in WW2 and winner of the VC along with the other 2,000 Gurkha's our immigration service tells them no.

I am bloody sick of this BS useless excuse for a Government that will not help these veterans out, Tony Blair you are a Bastard and so is your Government, you should me ashame of yourself you smug dickhead.

Von poop, your link to write to your MP is a good idea but these MP's will only send back the stock run of the mill response I should know the rubbish I get back on certain issues. But never the less I shall send a letter.

Default Re: VC barred from the UK.

not only did they say he didnt show enough connection to the uk but it turns out that back in the 70's the army took his VC for 'safe keeping' and only gave him the moder equivelant of £500 pounds for it

Saw a picture of him that the Saudis hap put up on a post board at an Air Force base in Saudi Arabia during Desert Shield/Storm. The caption below the pic read "Why I converted to Islam." I guess they were trying to convert us.....

At least part of it is due to the tripartide agreement between India, Nepal and the UK. Still tragc.

A poster on another forum has flagged up that Mr Pun's solicitor has built a website devoted to his cause:

VC Hero.
They are collecting emails of support to present to the appeal.

Cheers,
Adam.

Default Excellent News.

Immigration Minister Liam Byrne has now said his case is "exceptional" and he will be granted a visa due to a "heroic record in the service of Britain".

Shouldn't have happened in the first place but it looks like this has been put right.

Cheers,
