Re: Anne Franks' tree to be saved from developers
This has been going on for a while. Anne's cousin said that he like sthe tree to stay, but like everything living, everything dies too....When it is a danger to people living around it, it should be chopped down. "Anne would have said the same", he said...
Bit strange this is on Reuters Africa...
Bigfun, who did it? This also has been keeping us occupied for many, many years. I think they came to the conclusion it was a professional criminal who turned jews in for money to the Germans....

Re: Anne Franks' tree to be saved from developers
This is good to know. Last I heard, the tree was too ill to be saved and that they were going to plant another in it's place.

Re: Anne Franks' tree to be saved from developers
I saw it some days ago on the News.. Then they readed a little piece out of her diary. Something like: "the three is more beautiful than it was a year ago".

Re: Anne Franks' tree to be saved from developers
Heres to a successful savings of that tree. Here in Texas, we are also preserving a very historical tree-one that was poisoned by some jackass years ago. The tree in question is the famous Oak Tree under which General Sam Houston took the surrender of Santa Anna. The famous painting also shows Houston's ADC, "Deaf" Smith, leaning towards them trying to hear what they are saying.

They believe it was an NSB man named Tony Ahlers, and you are correct he did it for the money, 15 guilders. He was thought to have turned in many many people, unfortunately there was not enough evidence to convict him, as everyone he turned in was murdered in the camps. In fact Otto Frank spoke out on his behalf, they think because Tony Ahlers had info that Otto Frank did business with the Werhmacht during the war, and he was being blackmailed with that info. Otto was afraid it would detract from the memory of his daughter.
