Default Hawker Hurricane Mk. I Restoration

Hi All,

I thought you might like to see a photo of P2902, Squadron Leader McGlashan's Hurricane from Dunkirk.

Since the photo, the Hurricane has been moved to the VERY capable facility at "Hawker Restorations" at Suffolk UK for completion.

If you're interested, there's some more information on how the aircraft ended up on the beach at Dunkirk at my website.

Cheers

Owen

What a beauty! I must take years to restore this. It's a great shot of the wooden frame. Thank you for posting this.

Hi Skipper,

Yes, when the Hurricane is stripped back you can really see its heritage. The wooden construction over the metal framework is indicative of the beautiful, final generation of Hawker biplanes. Coincidentally, these are the aircraft Kenneth trained on prior to the outbreak of WWII, back when stripping the Vickers machine gun was still a part of the pilots' training.

As you liked the look of the framework, here's another shot.

Cheers

Owen

Great stuff.
I can sit and watch the blokes at Duxford doing their restoration thing all day but I've never seen them on one of those. Constantly puzzled as to how the plane restorers know where to start... and have the confidence to finish.
I'm usually impressed by armour restorations but at least if an error's made in those it doesn't potentially mean a flaming plummet from 500 feet. Amazing skill to keep these old dears flying.

For some reason the name McGlashan seemed familiar and After checking I see it was a brief mention over on ww2t of the Flypast article.

Cheers,
Adam.

Hi Adam,

There is no doubting the dedication involved in restoring these aircraft to full flying status. Furthermore, the work MUST be first class to get past the stringent regulatory requirements.

I had a Tiger Moth restored from the 'ground up' and watching it evolve was amazing. In fact I kept a photo diary of the process that still makes excellent viewing.

Hats off to those who rebuild them and keep them flying!

Here's the finished Tiger.

Cheers Owen , it's a real pleasure to see at all those wooden spars cast together and turned into a fuselage which is a such piece of artwork that it is almost a pity to cover the wooden framework and not be able to see them anymore. But then you get another result which will even be better. Thank you again.
