Re: The Lunatics really have taken over the asylum now....
Quoting from the link that you provided:
Quote:
Part III The Sixth Protocol
Article 1 Abolition of the death penalty
The death penalty shall be abolished. No one shall be condemned to such penalty or executed.
Article 2 Death penalty in time of war
A State may make provision in its law for the death penalty in respect of acts committed in time of war or of imminent threat of war; such penalty shall be applied only in the instances laid down in the law and in accordance with its provisions. The State shall communicate to the Secretary General of the Council of Europe the relevant provisions of that law.
|
Now, understand that I'm over here in the colonies, and really don't have a dog in this fight.... but, the way I read that, the death penalty has been ablolished. (At least, by MY reading of The Human Rights Act.)

Lou,
You've just hit on why the HRA is the most derided piece of legislation in this country's history.
That's not what it says in Schedule 1, so does THAT have precedence- or the one you quoted?!
God alone knows......

Re: The Lunatics really have taken over the asylum now....
The EU will not allow us the death penalty while we remain in the EU.
What about the stocks?
Human rights.
Sod it.
I don't give a stuff about the law, if I catch scumbags vandalizing war graves or memorials there get more than a thick ear from me.

Re: The Lunatics really have taken over the asylum now....
So, let's see if I have this right: In the EU you can engage in serial murder and when caught can be sentenced to a term in prison (I believe the EU also rejects true life sentences. Isn't it like a 30 year term max?). Then, once in prison you can go on killing additional people whenever the opportunity presents itself (as I also believe the EU cannot put someone in solitary confinement indefinitely). Thus, if you are a "Hannibal Lechter" sorta guy you can have a very fulfilling life of murder in the EU regardless of your legal status.
Sorta makes the US look sane by comparison.....particularly states like Texas where the kill this sort on a regular basis.

@T.A.Gardner
The EU is a club for a bunch of corrupt slime balls.
They get something like £100 to £150 for every voting session, but they don't have to vote as long as they turn up here's your money. The amount of rubber stamping would make your eyeballs pop out.

Re: The Lunatics really have taken over the asylum now....
If one piece of legislation has brought about the current Nanny state of political correctness that now exists in what was the once great country of Britain look no further than the Human rights act backed up of course by the ridiculous European court of human rights !!!
What sort of idiots could have allowed us to be enveloped by such legislation ????
Don't suppose Tony Blair will ever post here !! But if you do pass by Tony it couldn't have anything to do with the fact that your darling wife is a Human rights lawyer and you made millions by selling the country down the river !!
But then again we know that this government has no respect or time for veterans past and present or for those presently serving for that matter so the topic of this thread is not in anyway surprising in modern Britain.
Clarkson for PM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: The Lunatics really have taken over the asylum now....
Of course the Liberal / Leftist EU has no respect for veterans. Western Liberalism / Leftists view the military and the whole concept of conflict with an degree of utter contempt. As but one example, during Clinton's Presidency his "wife" Hillary forbid military officers from being in the White House in uniform, such was her hatred of the military.
So, why would anyone expect the EU to do differently? The Netherlands military is unionized for Christ's sake! I could just see their union reps arguing that the troops cannot go into battle as it violates some safety regulation or another because they might actually get injured, or that their "scheduled" work hours require voluntary overtime before the troops will continue to fight!

UK government hold a referendum in 1975 on the permanence in the EEC. The question on the paper was:
"Parliament has decided to consult the electorate on the question whether the UK should remain in the European Economic Community: Do you want the UK to remain in the EEC?"
British membership of the EEC was endorsed by 67.2% of those voting, with a turnout of 64.5%.

Re: The Lunatics really have taken over the asylum now....
I'm so glad that we said SOD OFF !! during both referendums to join the Fourth Reich...err EU.
We have enough stupid politicians in Norway, we don't need to import the european poofs aswell.
So tough luck Britain, you were the reluctant bride but ultimatly you fell prey to the continentals.
Unless Jeremy Clarkson is voted PM you will have to suffer their law.
This really made my day. Now I shall walk around stark naked drinking Glenmorangie and fart loudly all day..... Because I can.
