When it comes to police I prefer to remember the addage of that 60's anarchist protester Abby Hoffman:

"Got a problem? Call a cop. Get two problems!"

I'm not sure I agree with the sentiment on law enforcement officers, but I do think this woman is being treated improperly. The police should have joined into the fray on the side of the lady, in my opinion.

Pity that after the tw*t said "That's assault." That Julie Lake didn't reply, "No THIS is assault." and given him a kicking.
I've been attacked at work, whilst collecting the mail, the Police did nothing but did say, that if I'd had hit one of the kids I'd have been done for assault.
It was OK for the kids to spit on me and throw rocks and crates at me but if I'd have hit one, I'd be in trouble.
Modern Britain sucks at times.

The state is responsible too for neglecting a sacred place. The Yobs have a lack of respect because they are being taught their rights, not their duties. Had they had their asses kicked the first time, nothing would have happened. Had they been educated, they would not even have vandalized the site. the least we can say is that the lady deserves our respect.

This is the problem we have here in the UK, our laws are watered down by the EU and Human rights organizations are going around telling us we can not do X,Y,Z to these poor yobs from a poor background. It's like listening to a broken record, they can smash up our country but as soon as you grab them the law comes down on you like a pile of bricks. Yobs in this country are the untouchables and they know it, this sort of thing will only increase as the years go on.

Richard, it's the same here! Watered down laws, nobody wants to do anything for fear of "offending" someone! I don't reccomend taking the law into your own hands, but I think this lady had no choice if the events happened as she says. I have seen the Police, whose job I do not envy, use theur judgement in arresting someone, I don't think they had to do that in this case. They should have gone to the "yobs" and told them "you would've got worse from me if I saw you doing that"! But I think alot of this falls on the parents, where are they? Did not they teach these kids how to act in public, if I so much as hinted at disrespect to anyone my parents would have dropped me like a bad transmission!

The limits of democracy used by those who know how to abuse it. It's the same eveywhere. At least there are still people who care and who are ready to defend our veterans. It would be worse if nobody had reacted at all.

There are too many low-lifes that aware of their rights, but could less care about their responsibilities. The more civilized the nation, the more opportunity for them to flourish. Over a hundred years ago, people would leave the cities of the eastern states, with police and civilized government. They would head to the untamed west and find that they lived and died by their own ability to administrate their morality. Those that failed, wither died or moved back to the comfort of civilization.

We need more of the people who will stand up to the yobs, hoodlums, neds, whatever.

This is the way things develop when people get all their creature comforts without doing a days work for it.

It is visible in Norway too. They are practically lawyers when it comes to figure out how to get things, and do sod all to build the society. Such sponges should be sendt to a holliday camp... Preferably to the Gulag.

I agree, but she should be fined for hitting a minor and sent a message to make her think twice next time. The fine should be one euro and she should be given a warning. The police should follow by placing the maximum punishment by law on the youth and his parents. Publicizing such results would send a clear message to others who trample and disrespect the honorable.

Unfortunately, it seems that the laws are being turned against the citizens they are suppose to protect. the same goes on here in the US with criminal suing their victims and winning. They talk about gun control or buy back programs but the only ones who obey the laws are the citizens who get hurt in the long run. I'm with the lady, I will take my punishment after I whoop some Texas Justice on any hooligan who crosses my path.
