Re: UXBs found near Lancaster crash sites
I wonder why it will take 3 or 4 days to make the bomb safe.
Here it will only take a few hours. Maybe some time longer when people have to evacuate.

Re: UXBs found near Lancaster crash sites
People in mainland Europe are far more used to the actuality of live ordnance from the various World wars.
Great Britain sometimes over-emphasizes 'Health & Safety' with the result that people can over-react ; I have seen it reported that roads have been closed and residents evacuated when a single unexploded hand-grenade has been found on a building-site.....

I can understand that.
If you will look on WW1 battle fields, finding UXO's is just daily business... en they just put them a side of the road... "where ones a month the "police" will pick it up."
But offcourse, safety first!

Re: UXBs found near Lancaster crash sites
True, Martin. Changed days, though; I remember one of my Primary school mates finding a live grenade and .303 ammo in the cellar of the derelict local carpet mill, left there by the HG. He brought it into class to show the teacher, and in all innocence we quite merrily threw it around! The sweet old dear calmly collected it, quietly told us all to play outside, and we saw her disappear across the road to the Police station. The grenade had vanished when we went back in.
They just don't make 'em like that any more.....

Re: UXBs found near Lancaster crash sites
Oh well better too much safety than not enough, it's the way our society goes nowadays, it's a bit silly and and costs a lot of money too, but people in charge are so scared for not taking enough precautions that you get these kind of situations.
