Militaria 2008 show
On Sunday February 3rd, it is the Militaria 2008 show at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire. It is one of Europes biggest premier militaria shows and is an event not to be missed, it attracts buyers and sellers from far and wide.As well as traders, the halls contain living history displays and dioramas.
I will be there to see what i can find to add to my collection...

Re: Militaria 2008 show
Hi John, I hope you have the best of times while at that show. Saw hello to Peter von Lukacs, Andre Huesken, Detlev Niemann, Kai Bruggeman and Carsten Baldes for me if you happen to go by any of their tables? These Gents are some of my favorite dealers to buy from. ;-))
PS, take lot's of pictures whilst there (especially of the GERMAN stuff) so you can show us here what you saw ;-D

Tempting, but Stoneleigh in the middle of Winter is a fair old journey from here ( and its perfectly timed to coincide with the arrival of Christmas bills ....! )

Stoneleigh is a fair old drive from where i live too, Martin (2 hours away), but the thought of all that militaria vying for my attention is just too much of a temptation...
I have been saving the 'pennies' for months, in readiness for this event...
The only gripe i do have about the show, is the extortionate entrance fee... £9 !!!

Thanks John, looking forward to seeing some of what you might drool over. ;-)) If you happen to find some Regimental flags and such--those are really great works of art. I think those flags sell in the $25,000+++ range-last time I looked.

Don't forget that I live in London - it can take 45 minutes just to get out of the end of my street.....

Re: Militaria 2008 show
I went, on a whim.
Not that successful a day for me as I spent £9 getting in and then only spent... £9... on some books & magazines .
Not really competing with Beltring's 'shops' for scale I'd say, and certainly nowhere near as many foreign dealers, but OK.
Did see an absolutely beautiful new Weasel restoration though, and the 6 year old was happy with a WW1 75mm shell case.
Cheers,
Adam.

Re: Militaria 2008 show
Hmmm...well, maybe it's just as well I didn't make the long drive up.....Must admit that at the moment I'm trying to keep my powder dry for events later this year.

Re: Militaria 2008 show
Well, i went, i looked and i bought !
I agree with adam, there were not a lot of foreign dealers at the event. At previous shows there have been a lot of sellers who have made the trip across the Channel. This year the stalls appeared to be spread out more in order to fill the halls, indicating less dealers.
I came away with a few goodies, but not as much as i'd hoped to.
Adam, did you happen to see the huge remote controlled tanks that were making their way around the event? I want one...

Aren't they wonderful.
I know them well from Beltring mate, you are far from alone in wanting one (would one be enough... 3 or 4 needed at least for a decent battle).
Sadly the 1/6th scale ones are about £2-3k & the 1/4th scale Tiger about £8k.
Radio Controlled Model Tanks - M1A1 Abrams, T90, T34, Panther, Jagdpanther,Tiger 1, King Tiger, M4 Sherman Howitzer, Sherman Firefly, Joseph Stalin 2, Leopard 2
(My 6 year old suggested we sell the car to buy it; I had to point out we wouldn't even raise close to enough .)
The ones from Armortek are rather tasty too (and all metal):
Armortek 1/6th Scale All Metal Kits
Cheers,
Adam.

I've seen those tanks at Beltring too - the Tiger especially looks rather fun....

Re: Militaria 2008 show
Adam, i hear kidney sales are fetching good money at the moment...
Beltring is an event i have yet to get to. Unfortunately, this years show clashes with a family holiday to the good old US of A.
There is always next year...

John, I'm deeply shocked and disappointed that a sensible guy such as yourself could get your priorities so completely, utterly wrong.....

My thoughts exactly.

(And with a certain Panther possibly running by then you'd best go to Aberdeen to compensate John)
The Kidney thing's very tempting... but I reckon mine wouldn't be worth much now
