It's going to take a long, long time before traces of this war fade away.

I agree with you there, With bombs being found in Europe and Japan and the millions of mines out there who knows? The minefields in North Africa are still doing their jobs.

I confirm. some areas here are still forbidden and extremely dangerous, like parts of the Ile de Cezembre facing St Malo. This was a natural fortress reinforced by heavy bunkers that was so heavily bombed that the shape of the island was transformed. Incredibly, there were survivors in the bunkers who surrendered after undergoing Hell for an eternity. Some were deaf, others went crazy, others commited suicide in the following days.

Amazing isn't it! There is another thread here i think by 272VGD, skipper can correct if I'm wrong, he shows alot of the things he has personally found in WWII battlefields. This stuff will keep truning up for a while, I just wish these things would stop hurting people.

Question Re: World War II mines found on beach

Looking at the one in the photo, the inside seems to be empty of explosives ; it looks as if the sea has hollowed it out long ago.....

Something tells me that more will continue to be unearthed as time goes by. Lets just hope that they wont cause anymore harm, after staying dormant for so long.

I don't think this particular one was still harmful, but you never know. it is a common thing for fishemen to catch one of these in their nets and they sometimes explode and hurt people. A Dutch crew was killed a few years ago.

Since munitions from even WWI still keep popping up who knows how long it would be. Especially since there is stuff laying around from every conflict after. All over the world.

guess we shouldn't find this so strange the KM S-booten for the most part carried out quite a large campaign against English waterways and the coastline, so we are bound to see something that was at one time submerged breaking the chain and floating and carrying onto the surface thus the beach as well............not thanks not a fun place to surf, am somewhat surprised there has not been more found along the Dutch coastline as well ........
