WWII soldier's skeleton, diary discovered in New Guinea
WWII soldier's skeleton, diary discovered in New Guinea
Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at 15:31 EST SYDNEY — A full skeleton of a Japanese soldier has been unearthed in Papua New Guinea, found clutching his dog tag, diary and helmet to his chest. The discovery, made on the Kokoda Track, is extremely rare, a local tour guide operator who found the remains, Wayne Wetherall, said on Wednesday.
It is believed to be the first time in 30 years a full skeleton has been found on the narrow 96-kilometer trail, the scene of several fierce battles fought between Japanese and Australian soldiers from 1942 to 1943. The remains have been covered over until an investigation can be carried out by the Japanese government.

Thanks. I hope that some more info will be released by the Japanese on the soldier. Its also good that Australia is also trying to protect the Trail. I wonder how many more will be found over the years?
