Re: The Dambusters live on
65 years ago tonight..........
Today's BBC News carried some beautiful footage of the BBMF Lancaster overflying the Derwent Dam in Derbyshire earlier today, watched by the last surviving pilot from the Raid, New Zealander Les Munro.
This evening, think of Guy Gibson saying 'Well chaps, my watch says it's time to go...' and spare a thought for those who were never to come back.

Exactly. Fantastic tribute I believe. Those boys were extremely brave. Is there a memorial to them anywhere?

Dambusters memorial, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire - World War II Memorials / Monuments on Waymarking.com
There's also Guy Gibson's grave site in Steenbergen en Kruisland in The Netherlands.

Thanks for the heads up, Martin - I shall watch the DVD this evening and honor those brave souls.

What a great site that Lancaster, is just a shame there is only one dambuster left here's to the memory of all those who flew the skies all those years ago.

Re: The Dambusters live on
A Lancaster bomber flies over Derwent dam in England's Peak District, to mark the 65th anniversary of the WWII Dambusters' raid, Friday. Specially developed "bouncing bombs" were used in Operation Chastise, an attack on German dams on May 17, 1943. The attack was carried out by Britain's Royal Air Force No. 617 Squadron, who subsequently became known as the Dambusters.
