I hope that as the WWII generation ages, its members will continue to donate to museums. The farther removed from the conflict we get, the more likely we are to see important historical materials showing up on eBay. That always bothers me.

Very interesting finding!

Things like this helps to complete the picture of the conflict, which has often been onesided.

I kind of jumped in my chair when I read this:

Quote:
Keith added: “People need to think about what they have got.
“There may be a lot more gems like this hiding away under someone’s bed.”

A few years ago I found an album my mother had hidden away, with pictures from the battle in northern Norway in 1940. Most of them are from the Battle of Narvik, taken by Norwegian and German soldiers.
My mother lived in Narvik by the time of the invasion, and she, my uncle, my grandfather and grandmother fled to the mountains with the rest of the civilian population when the battle started.
Later on she came to Tromsų, where she worked at a photographer's shop.
German and Norwegian soldiers sent their films for processing and copies, and she kept some copies for her own records.

The German soldiers switched pictures with each other, and they also sold copies as souvenirs.

I have seen some of the pictures in the album published in books and magazines, but there are some that I believe have not been published so far.

May be I will show them here on this Forum, but first I have to scan them, and that will take some time, there are in all 101 pictures.

Regards
RAM
