Zyklon sports shoes...
Well, back in 2002 but interesting that this could happen...
BBC NEWS | UK | Fury over Nazi gas sports shoe name
Umbro said the Zyklon name, which was chosen by a designer in the firm's footwear department, had been on the side of boxes for the trainer since its launch in 1999, but does not appear on the shoe itself.
Mr Crook said: "I don't think the person who named them knew what it would mean to some people.

Re: Zyklon sports shoes...
Isn't Zyklon the German word for Cyclone? So change it to English!!
Ye Gods, I get the whole 'lets-do-something-to-justify-our-jobs' feel about that story. It's almost as moronic as the people who want to ban a centuries-old hymn found in British hymn-books because the tune was later plagiarised for Deutschland uber Alles.

Re: Zyklon sports shoes...
I'm sorry, but Zyklon has an entirely different meaning than Zyklon B. I'm with the Historian on this one.

Re: Zyklon sports shoes...
I doubt that the marketing guy who "invented" this name studied history. what a fuss for nothing. Like you say, Zyclon and Zyclon B have nothing in common except that the names look alike.

I think the guy was simply an ignorant, to him the word had no connotations at all. The problem is with us inveterate nitpickers.
Gordon, isn't DUA a Joseph Haydn piece? As such it's legitimately German
Here it is! Who plagiarised whom? Written in 1797, as an anthem for the birthday of Emperor Franz II of the Holy Roma Empire. Also used in the 2nd movement of his String Quartet no. 62 in C Major.

Re: Zyklon sports shoes...
Ah cheers, Mig. I stand corrected.
Still no connection to Hitler, but when did the moral guardians ever let that stop them? It's a bit like Scots Nats complaining about a 5th verse of God Save the Queen with references to "rebellious Scots to crush", despite the fact it hasn't been used since around 1790 and certainly hasn't been printed in any hymn book in MY lifetime.

Re: Zyklon sports shoes...
I asked this question in the other OttoForum last year.
Would y'all prefer Rule Britannia over GSTQ/K as national anthem of the UK? What are the merits and disadvantages of either song in your opinion?

God Save The Queen can be a bad idea in plaches where people shpeak Englishh with an acchent.
Rule Britannia is not PC as it might provoke some citizens of a South American country which will remain nameless.
Now if the capital of the United Kingdom moved to Manchester any Red Army song would do.
By the way, why is the place called United Kingdom and not United Queendom?
There, this anti-UK tirade should give those US members who resent anti-US posts a temporary respite

What, Sean Connery's house?! It's also a hymn, so is relatively neutral politically. As a second choice, Land of Hope and Glory (come on, you were waiting on me saying that! )

Also a good way to start a fight in areas of Scotland with a high RC population.

Re: Zyklon sports shoes...
Controvercial I know but personally I would suggest Jerusalem as an alternative to GSTQ. Don't get me wrong, whenever it is sung I stand staunchly to attention and sing with all my heart however I think that Jerusalem, along with the values it encompasses, pretty well sum up what I want the UK to become. Think about it, it is multinational (at least 3 religions have Jerusalem as a holy city and those that don't aren't too bothered about that kind of thing) whilst the values the song engenders, the basic Christian values of trust, honour, respect and so on are values which any religion could understand and respect. We could do a lot worse than build Jerusalem in this most green and pleasant of lands.
If however you want a clear and real analysis of the UK, you could go far wrong of this:
Gentlemen Rankers

The problem with that is the reference to ' England's green and pleasant land'; not much to inspire the Celts there....

Re: Zyklon sports shoes...
Nothing wrong with that there is more fun in other anthems:
what about the Dutch one "We are of German blood" in the first sentence or the French one "flood our fields with the blood of our impure enemies"
