Nazi hell kills war hero 68yrs on

Veteran Peter Vernon-Ward, 86, had his legs smashed with rifle butts while a PoW leaving ulcers which perforated three years ago.
Doctors warned Peter he faced slow poisoning unless he had a limb amputated. But he refused the surgery and died last Sunday.
Son Bob said: “He saw having the operation as giving in to the Nazis.”

He even refused painkillers right up until he died, despite being in agony. He had the inner strength of 100 men...

This is a pair of Dutch resistance crystal radios, built into a small metal can, and a matchbox. The image is from a postcard bought at a Dutch Resistance Museum in Amsterdam. The matchbox is marked in Swedish, but Swedish matches were sold in Holland for many years..

And there are those who say the War was a long time ago and has nothing to do with today! I personally think every Veteran lives daily with what happened to them - even if for some it may be subconcious.
The Veteran in the story must have had much pain all his life and to think the torture happened to him at the age of 17! I hope he has peace now.
