I am moved that there are such organizations within the US and the statistic of 1000 vets dying per day is staggering. I know the Retired Servicemens League in this country does what it can. I can only hope that there are organizations like this one here that i dont know of.

BTW i would be interested on your thoughts on a thread i began?

My grandfather will be taking part in the Central MO Honor Flight program this October. My father and I will both be traveling to DC to take part in the experience as well. We are looking forward to the time and will certainly post a writeup afterwards. Great, great program!

Well, Sandy, I can understand your Dad's feeling about travel. Please try to emphasize the travel is to honor him for his service and have a chance to see the beautiful memorial to all WWII vets on our Nation's Mall.

I hope he'll change his mind. Please tell him for me that I sincerely appreciate and thank him for his sacrifice, devotion to duty , and service to our country when we really needed it.

My hopes are that I might be able to sit him down and get him to read some stuff out here on this board.. He might be able to answer some questions that I seen on here..

Sandy, I too was very hesitant to think my grandfather would ever agree to sign up for the honor flight. He seemed to start thinking about it after reading some articles I sent his way regarding previous flights. There were also some evening news showing the highlights from the flights and that really seemed to get him on board. He's actually attending the pre-flight meeting today to go over everything to be expected on the October 13th flight. I'm certainly looking forward to the trip myself!

They make this really special for those vets. My grandfather went on the Virginia Triangle Bus one and he said that at three different places they had crowds of at least a hundred people waving flags as the buses went past.

Here in Delaware, they took them all up on busses one day last year. It's about a two to two-and-a-half hour drive and they had a police escort the entire way. My grandfather was so excited about that! These American heroes deserve that and so much more!
