Anyway. After graduating basic common training, then completing the basic trade training in marine engineering, which i topped, i spent some months in "the fleet". I loved the tradition of it all and the pride in serving, but the job itself i didn't enjoy. So after careful deliberation, and advice from family , i left the navy and used my quals. to get a great job i love.

My question, Can i still wear my uniform (No1s obviously) to new zealands only "veterans" day, ANZAC day?? I'm not trying to claim any glory, but it was those old guys that made me want to step up and serve my country, and I'm proud of that and prouder of them. I want to show it...thoughts??

You need to see what the regulations are regarding the wear of a service uniform in part or as a whole by persons honorably discharged from the military.

Here in the States the only persons authorized to wear the Service Uniform are those that are attending official celebrations who have retired from the service, are disabled veterans, Medal of Honor recipients or have been authorized to do so by their specific branch of service. There are varying levels of appropriateness (SP?).

As a rule, here in the States, if you are honorably discharged (prior to retirement 20 years) you are not authorized to wear the service uniform to any function unless you have specific dispensation.

Polo Shirts, Dress shirts, Neck ties and Ball caps are general sufficient shows of support by honorably discharged veterans in lieu of a service uniform.

Thanks for your input, i would imagine our regulations to be very similar to the states... I guess I'll need to make some enquires, or just to leave my pride in the uniform "in the closet" so to speak.
I wasn't too sure if i was gonna get flamed just for the suggestion...
