Charles de Gaulle will be an interesting figure to watch, many claims have been brought against him posthumously. I think it may have been de Gaulle but I'm not 100% sure, there were claims that he did not want any "colored" troops to liberate France?

Fascinating article. I am very curious about De Gaulle, and those that advised him. I find it especially interesting to read about how the British managed him (or he managed them) throughout the war...

De Gaulle was a proud Frenchman and I think he wanted to make the liberation of his country seem as French (and Gaullist) as possible to restore French pride after the embarrassment of 1940 as well as advancing his own political career.

Certainly a difficult man to deal with - not I suspect Winston's best friend

BBC News | UK POLITICS | Churchill 'wanted to abandon de Gaulle'

However de Gaulle's son wrote :-

M. de Gaulle says: "I can assure you I never heard my father denigrate Churchill during the war or afterwards. Yet I lived in Britain at the time when he had plenty of reasons for doing so ...""

De Gaulle admired the British and Churchill, claims his son - Europe, World - The Independent

Richie
