Default Volkstrauertag Day

Anyone go to any local events marking Volkstrauertag? What are the events like? I saw an article this morning about the day being marked in the Recihstag but I lost the link!

For those who don't know what Volkstrauertag day is, it's essentially the German equivalent to Remembrance/Veterans day.

Here's a link to a German page. The translation, however, is not too clear. If someone can give us a closer reading, it would be helpful.

That's the one!

Thanks for sharing, hopefully members who know more German than I can translate since the Google/Babblefish/Bing translations do a poor job.

Default Re: Volkstrauertag Day

The text is just the announcement that the central commemoration is held in the parliament at 16.00. That the speech and the prayer are hold by president Horst Köhler. And that there will be a reading about war and peace by Katia Franke accompanied musically by singer Sieglinde Schneider and guitarist Fedor Volkov with additional arrangements by the choir of the University of Fine Arts Bremen and string players from the Music Korps of the Bundeswehr.
I actually visited the wreath ceremony at the Neue Wache.

Philipp

Edit: I would like to add that there is a important difference between the Veterans Day and the Volkstrauertag the first one is mainly for the living (at least I understood it that way) while the latter is for the fallen (from all sides in all wars)

Also of note, Erwin Rommel was born on November 15, 1891, Happy Birthday!

Philip: Thanks for the clarifications, I think you are right on the differences.

Edit: Speaking of which, video of Rommel giving a speech, this is the first time I've heard him speak!
