This is a remnant in the form of a light novel that I did from a game that was done on the now defunct Armchair General forum. The guy that ran it, can't remember his online name, has since died and I thought this was at least something that remained from that forum. No, it has nothing to do with WW 2 and is instead sci fi based, it is at least a small part of what got posted there.

Does anyone have a contact from the now gone 1.JmA (Jagdmoroner Abteilung) website? It's probably a lost cause at this stage, but worth a try.

I just read an archive from the site and it was great. So many great articles, and their forum was top notch. Their Penguin theme/logo also struck a chord with me.

A crying shame the site went dark, and the data is...

I was wondering if there is a way to retrieve and restore and/or save websites that for one reason or another have gone by the wayside. One in particular was Jim Sterling's "web-birds". A search takes you to a mish-mash page of nothingness but I found on "Wayback" archive much of his old site. I have saved a few of the pictures from the site but it is a shame to lose so much great information he compiled.
The site had a crash a couple of years ago and came back on a new platform but the database of previous posts was never loaded (the site owner supposedly still has the db). This site is apparently defunct at this time.

The site was owned & maintained by Mark Flowers.

It had some great content, no forums/discussion area that I'm aware of. Worth restoring in any case. We could probably pull much of the data off the WayBack Machine, but admin support is useful.

Does anyone have contact(s) for the Mark Flowers or anyone associated with the WW2 Gyrene site?

On occasion however, the real world intervenes in ways we cannot predict, and his virtual effort could be maintained any further. Jim contacted me about his website late last week. I now have a full backup copy of the war44 community, and he is in the process of transferring the domain over here.

One of the core tenets of this site is preservation of historical records. The Safe Harbor Initiative is an ongoing effort to save valuable historical websites that are in danger of going defunct. As such we have a standing offer to help preserve any WW2 website who's owners cannot provide the resources to maintain the day to day operation of those site.
Look for updates on this effort as we preserve websites, and please keep us in mind when you hear of useful historical sites in danger of...
