    Yes Sir, The smiles on the aircrew in the background are almost as big as their passengers.

    "At Hanoi's Gia Lam Airport, the men were thrilled to see USAF C-141A Starlifter aircraft landing to pick them up. The happiest moment came when the aircraft left the ground--and POWs knew for certain that they were free.

    Free Again
    Ex-POWs first stopped at Clark Air Base in the Philippines for medical exams, good meals and new uniforms. After stops in Hawaii and California, they finally returned to their families and their lives as free Americans."

    Pure joy...A great picture.
    NOTE: What looks to be a Vietnamese Man behind the man with his arm in the air...Keeping a low profile. My guess is he was a translator or some other assistant to the US...Leaving fortuitously methinks...

    It fair dinkum looks like a bloke to me...Then i read this...

    "Americans were spellbound as they watched news clips of the POWs being carried in stretchers or walking tentatively toward U.S. officers at the awaiting aircraft for the first flight from Hanoi's Gia Lam Airport." And
    "Aeromedical teams assigned to each aircraft tended to the former POWs during the two-and-a-half hour flight to Clark Air Base in the Philippines, the first stop on their trip home. Meanwhile, many of the POWs joked and smoked American cigarettes as they caught up on all they'd missed while in captivity: fashion trends and the women's liberation movement, among them.

    Read this then look at the picture:
    "Imagine you're imprisoned in a cage; imagine the cage surrounded by the smell of faeces; imagine the rotted food you eat is so infested with insects that to eat only a few is a blessing; imagine knowing your life could be taken by one of your captors on a whim at any moment; imagine you are subjected to mental and physical torture designed to break not bones but instead spirit on a daily basis. That was being a prisoner of North Vietnam,"

    Check out the right side of the pic. She ain't alone ! All ya can see is a bun on the back of her head but I'm sure the guys weren't particular !
    Oh and towards the back there's definitely a translator/Vietnamese keeping a low profile.

    I've searched each face and can't stop thinking what that must have felt like.

    I suspect she'd be presented to the pax so they'd know who had the skills. All medical personnel would have been made known, saved time when they were needed. They would have been ready for meltdowns.
