I am getting ready to start a Monogram 1/48 scale B-17. If you have any good ideas or tips please say so. Thank you.

Timothy which version of the B-17 are you doing? That might help. if it is an early one could portary one of the B-17's from the Battle of Midway.

I always liked to built a crash-landed landed B-17 (something similar to the LAY OR BUST, see:)

But realistically, I'm not good enough in modelling and don't have the time. Maaybe once I've lost my job or retire... :D

    Cheers,

Edited. There are a bunch of other pics on this site. Actually the crash site seemed to become a place for excursions of the people living there, taking away "souveniers", if you look at the different photos espec. the tail unit.

So a diorama with a crash-landed B-17 and civilians and Wehrmacht soldiers standing around, investigating it would be a task for a modeller, unfortunately not yet for me, I'm not good enough... :(

    Cheers,

Andy, I actually built some diorama like that some years ago. Once I had built and destroyed my ship, a sails clipper, the Thermophillæ , I arranged the broken pieces in the bottom of my fish house, added water and then my fishes had a wreck to swim in and many people who saw it in the living room said it was  .

haha...that sounds like a good idea. all you need now is an under-water bird you guys are talking about in the general area.

Aandy am not sure if you could really duplicate the crashed B-17 with the destroyed nose in plastic. Unless there was some sort of resin kit showing the blown out details, anyones guess could be used on "how to" the damge by flak or a canno round via fighter. Possibly a destroyed tail section might be more suitable ? have seen several b/w pics of blown off tails and of course they are quite hideous, always hoping and wondering if the tail gunner escaped... ? But in any case a tail may be easier to render ?
