Hello Erich--if you can find his site on the internet--try Richard J. Williams militaria--he is in New York. I dont have the last cataloge I had from him--I just threw it away about 3 days ago--or I would give you address and other info. He is OK to deal with--the only item I bought was a 6 place ribbon bar.

Also try Weitze--he usually has some. I just got done looking at Detlevs site and didnt see any although you should see the stuff he is selling that belonged to Konteradmiral Leitzmann--this is truely a fantastic collection.

 

Thank you kind sir, I will check Weitze's site out again. I hadn't had time to check Detlev's this morn as I had to fire out of the house early for work.....long day today. I suspect I will have to pay up the nose for a good pair of binocs, but oh well......

These guys have binocs they advertise as"German WWII binoc's made with captured German equipment in the Soviet Union"
They look really close to German binoc's plus they are WAY cheaper.

 

Erich quiet welcome--you should be able to get some binocs for about $100.00 through Richard J. Williams Militaria. He usually has about 10-20 pairs of German Binocs for sale and at various prices. I think his are mainly Ziess.

Now for the most expensive kind--try finding a pair of Steiner Binocs for under $600.00.

I think he does and will see if I can find it in the mil dealers "fonbuch" and vill let you know is I see it there.

I found him through a search engine and yes he is on-line.....didn't see anything there but that doesn't mean he won't have some later. Rather deal with some-one reputable than manions or e-bay where the purchasing of one of these fine items is so uncertain.

My personal favorite set in my collection:

Hensoldt Wetzlar 14004 Dialyt 10x50 in original case, pristine optics.

I paid a pretty penny, but they were well worth it. Now if only I could figure out who the previous owner was.

thanks for the help.......Modus, sounds like you a wonderful pair of specs. Actually I am searching for anything from the Kriegsmarine. These crazy binoc's look to be the most sought after and most expensive from any dealer or auction house ; what a bummer this is. 10 x 50's or longer focal length is nice. Just searching for some militaria sites that are reputable enough and not take me by the shorts which has happened on occasion.

I got a copy of the book on ribbon bars from Amazon, but thats the last item I ordered from them which was near a year ago. I got it for $10.00 and it came in in a good amount of time. If I see they have what I want in the future--I plan to buy from them again.

Various sets were repainted or produced in the Sandy-tan tones.

I've also seen Black sets, but to be honest - most of the 10x50 "long" sets are painted as my set is.

And in case you are wondering, they are definately not for sale! Not that I make sweet love to my binoculars, but it's pretty damn close.

 

Intersting Modus .....no problem, I wasn't even going to bother you with the what if.....as you mentioned this was a hot item in your collection. thanks for sharing the pic. I'll look around and get real serious in June when I've got some more green stuff at my disposal.

My pleasure. Despite the fact that I don't use it anymore, E-Bay is a great place to find certain items. That's where I've picked up a good deal of my more prized possessions at decent prices.

I will admit, however, that you do need to sift through a lot of crap and be rather repetitive in your searches.

When I was in my prime buying stages, I checked once a day for "newly" added items, and then bookmarked them by date. Then, as the auction-end dates got closer and closer, I quickly sifted through what I really wanted and what was not so important.

Also, be specific in your "searches". See what provides you with the best results, and use many different patterns ("bincos", "binoculars", "sight", "scope", "range", "range-finder", etc).

Anywho, just my thoughts.

 

Furthermore, my next WWII-based project will be a website entitled "Der Beobachter" having to do with Axis and Ally Artillery, Optics, tactics, as well as showcasing a good deal of my collection.

No idea when it will be up.
