and within about 2 weeks--I will have a fine-to very fine Black Kondor Legion Wound Badge. Slowly the Wound Badge Collection nears completion. Now all I need to have a complete collection of Wound Badges is: all three grades of the 1957 re-issue Wound Badges, all three ww1 Imperial German Navy Wound Badges, Silver Kondor Legion Wound Badge(which in a few months might be a reality) and a July 20/ 1944 Wound Badge (no realistic hope in getting this one though) For now--im satisfied with having all three grades of the WW1 Wound Badges, all three grades of the www Wound Badges and the future Black Kondor Legion Wound Badge. Anyone else here collect Wound Badges? [ 02. April 2003, 04:28 PM: Message edited by: C.Evans ]
My collection contains two black 1939 wound badges. On my wish list are a cased silver and gold 1939 wound badge. Are there pictures of the wound bagde in the scans you are going to mail me? Last week I visited a dutch collector who is collecting for years. He is very experienced and is now specialized in dutch SS and NSB. From him I bought a NSB five years loyalty badge. Man this stuff is so cool to watch! I had the same badge before but it was a fake. Now I have a real one
I don't collect Wound Badges per se, but I do have 2 of them in my collection. One in particular is pretty neat. It has been "de-Nazified" sometime in it's past. The obverse is a standard, normal Black Wound Badge, with the black paint highly flaked off, and the helmet is completely smooth. The reverse still has the imprint of the Swastika. Kinda neat.
Hi David, Volkbert, William: David--I used to have mini wound badges but--I gave them all to RKTs as thanks for what they sent me. I think I now only have one mini stickpin in the collection now which has both grades of the Iron Cross and a black wound badge. Hi Volkbert--nice start in collecting them. I have two ww2 black wound badges with one being personalized by the soldier that it was awarded to--he removed all paint from the swaz--the rest of the pain is still on the badge. My other BWB is mint--even all paint on the pin and catch too. I dont know what a cased WBiS will go for--maybe $150.00 to $200.00? Ive seen cased WBiG go from $150.00 to $200.00 and recently saw one cased at $235.00. Im going to have all the wound badges scanned on one page so you can compare them all. I will have the ww1 and ww2 stuff there and im hoping to get the Kondor Legion BWB in in about 2 weeks so I cna include it in the scan before I mail them off to you. Ill send you a few photocopies at a time--so as not to use up all your space. Im thinking that ill do all my Medal bars on two sheets of card paper, and my ribbon bars I think will take up at least two pages alone. All the wound badges should fit on one page. All my awards will be done but ww1 on one page--with Freikorps--and the ww2 on another page. Then ill do my crosses and Regimental stuff on about 2 more pages. Cap tallies will have to be done by themselves. Shoulderboards and collar tabs will be the final ones I send. I dont know how many pages it will take for these to be done--probably 10 or so pages. Ill know for sure when I get all copies complete. William--Thats a good start in collecting them. I could have had all of them by last year had I actively collected them at that time. All I had till October 2002--were the two WBiB I have. I got the rest that I now have--in the last 7 months. I also like vet done denazified stuff. A friend of mine has an otherwise mint Silver Infantry Assault Badge--the swaz was cut off by the vet. When he comes at the next gunshow--im buying it if he still has it. Between David, Volkbert and I, maybe we can get you interested in actively collecting
You guys probably wouldn't have to push me too hard to start collecting the Wound Badges. I have a bit of a question for you. I've heard that on occasion, if the soldier already had the Black wound badge, and got wounded yet again to qualify for Silver, they'd scrape the black finish off. Any credence to that?
William, I have heard of this but I don't think it would have happened to often. Carl, Im bidding on this KVK miniture...
Hi William--ive never heard of that happening. When I stayed for the day with RKT Remy Schrijnen at his home in Hagen, Germany in 2000. He had all his awards on display on a black velvet pillow. ANyway--every award was mounted on it except for his VNV Party badge--which he had given as a gift to some American millionnaire who tried to get Remy to sell him his medals and was a nice way for Remy to say--no--the medals are not for sale. Remy still had all three grades of his wound badges--Inf Assault badge in Bronze, his Ek1 and EK2 and his Knights Cross. Also his two cufftitles and two Divisional Collar tabs. Hi David--I hope you are successful in winning that KvK mini.
Keep trying David. Ive lost a lot of great auctions in the past--but then again---ive won most of the stuff I wanted the most too.
William- I never heard of this story too. David - Bad luck! I am trying to buy a HJ sportabzeichen and a cased Wound badge in Silverat the moment on wehrmacht awards. Up till now everything I tried to buy through e-stand went wrong because I was too late. Carl- The WBiS in case costs only $105,-. Not bad isn't it?
Volkbert--thats a GREAT price--I hope you get it. Also--I know someone who im trying to "convince" to sell me his cased Wound Badges--hes thinking about it--but hasnt made up his mind yet. $105.00--thats a great price--providing the badge has at least 75% or more of its finish intact. Recently I saw someone trying to sell wound badges starting at $120.00 and one for $250.00--I dont know if they sold or not? I got my Silver Wound Badge from Frank (Munich) for $40.00 a few months ago. The badge is maker-marked has about 80% of its finish intact but isnt cased. Ill try for cased badges sometime down the road.
The wound badge is mine!!! My third cased medal (other 2 are EKI and Anschluss Austria). Here is a picture of it. Carl, I can recommend cased medals, it adds a lot fun to a 'normal' medal.
Great buy Volkbert! I saw those pics on the Estand. I was tempted to get the SS Ribbon Bar but thought it was a bit too expensive. Stogiman Rick has some nice stuff, does he not?
Carl- The ribbon bar with the SS medal looks good. I am not familiair with the prices of ribbon bars but $160 for a ribbon bar seems a lot to me. The only ribbon bar I am looking for at the moment is one with a EKII, Eastern front medal and Wehrmacht long service award (or KVKII). This is especially to put it on my M43 tunic. Stogieman collected mainly international isn't it?
Hi Volkbert: Oh--definately Stogimans Ribbon Bar is good--but I think even for an SS Ribbon Bar--I think the price is too steep. I think it should be maybe about $100.00 to $110.00? Then it will fly out his door. Id buy it as I have no SS ribbon Bars but--at $165.00 its too steep for me. The ribbon bar your looking for is a common one and should cost less then $15.00. I only have one pure ww2 Ribbon bar in my collection. It is a 5 place bar with ww2 EK2, KVK2, East Front medal, Czech occupation medal w/Prague defense bar, and an Army Long Service for yrs--I think? I dont remember when or where I got this one--probably off ebay or somewhere--not sure. I doubt I paid but maybe $15.00 for it--if even that much. If I had a duplicate of my 5 place bar--I would give it to you for your tunic. I can look around for you if you want Stogiman collected mainly Imperial German--got into ww2 German for awhile--and now looks like he is retiring--either rom the forums--and or collecting. Its a shame The second largest ribbon bar I have came from Stogimans collection. I bought an 11 place ribbon bar from him several months ago for $150.00 which was probably about $40.00 to $60.00 too much. This one is all Imperial German. By the way---ill let you know as soon as I can get all scans of my stuff done for you. The place I have to go to has been waiting to get their copier back from being fixed.
Carl- I saw a ribbon bar I like at Jörgen Kalies for only $9,- (Eastern front, EKII and KVK). But I think it's the best when I buy it at a show or together with another item because mostly I pay $5 to $10 for postage. The other thing I have to buy are mannequins. These will make my tunic look better.
I agree. Prices are going way out of hand these days When I first started becoming serious on collecting--I remember ribbon bars nor being in demand--and nobody or almost nobody bought them. At that time--I remember seeing an 8 place original SS Ribbon Bar going for about $50.00 compared to an 8 place ribbon bar-non SS--going for about $20.00. Now an 8 place non ss bar will fetch--from between $60.00 on up--even for one full of nothing but common awards. You can still get good deals buying from ebay.de. Recently I got two signi=ficant ribbon bars from Germany--both are Imperial German bars. One is a 6 place Saxon Ribbon Bar that belonged to a Major--the other is still not identified yet but--has wo high House Orders on it. This is a 3 place bar with the 1914 ek2, (unidentified w/ crossed swords on solid red ribbon) and Saxon Ernestine House Order w/swords. The with swords are all for bravery in combat. I have a 5 place all ww2 ribbon bar that would go perfect on your tunic--and ill see if I can find a good one for you somewhere. a 5 place ribbon bar might be stretching it for a mere NCO--but is not unheard of. More likely--it was a junior officers bar--maybe an Oberleutnant or even a Hauptmann.
You bought a ribbon bar on ebay! Are ribbon bars faked? I know you have to be careful with buying on ebay so I did'n do it. But if small ribbon bars are not faked than I can try it.
