It'll be such a shame when all the secondhand bookshops have closed down. Driving to the West Country last week, stopped for lunch in a small Dorset town. There's a big secondhand bookshop there - I visited once before and he has some good books, but many are overpriced. It's the same this time, but there's a copy of Laddie Lucas' biography of Bader. A first edition, the price is £6.50, which is OK as they go for £15 at airshows. Flick to the title page and - what's this !? We have a bargain here..... Bader sig Even expensive shops get it wrong sometimes...
My wife gets heartily sick of me saying 'Leave no stone unturned' as I disappear through another bookshop door.....
Knuckle biting time again! That is one great buy, Martin! I know all to well the face my wife makes when I see yet another bookstore and pretend to be the cavalry coming to the rescue or when she hears my "Tally-Ho, skipper, I'm going in!". I think I am going to use the 'No Stone Unturned" tactic as well. See how she reacts....And let that one follow with a subtle "If you are not with me, you are against me!".....
A friend (Terry Cox) once told me he takes his wife with him everywhere, because she's too ugly to kiss "Goodbye". Ahhh used bookstores, estate sales... the simple pleasures. Diamonds in the ruff.
Anybody in the U.S. interested my friend has a framed Robert Taylor print with a Sir Douglas Bader signature on it. Since it is framed he won't ship outside the Continental United States (CONUS). I'd have to ask for the price but I think it's around $1,700. I don't want to be on this forum selling stuff but I like to help collectors acquire things they're interested so when I know somebody has something that somebody else is looking for, I'm happy to link them up. Bob
$1,700 is a bit outside my league....being a notorious bargain-hunter, I'll stick with my £6.50 signed book !
