I'm not the best with medals, but I believe its a war merit cross second class. As for value I don't really know.
It most certainly is not an Iron Cross. Panzergrenadiere is right in indicating the War Merit Cross 2nd Class but the item shown is a badge, not the Cross itself. It may possibly have been a private purchase to indicate the wearer's possession of the medal ? But I'm guessing there. This was a civilian award and millions were issued. This, and the fact that the bronze coating looks fairly worn, most likely mean that the item is only of curiosity value.
This is a War Merit Cross without Swords FIRST CLASS. The second class has a ring at the top with with a loop for a ribbon. And the pin on the back of this is indicative of a reproduction. The WMC's that I have seen have a flat pin. Bob
Thanks for the input, Bob - and a very warm welcome to the WWII forums ! Our Militaria section has been a little quiet lately and it's great to see some fresh ideas
Hello Martin, Well hopefully I can spice up this section. I'm active on the Wehrmacht Awards and Axis History Forums and thought I'd join this one and add what I could. Thanks for the 'welcome aboard' Bob
