Hey, I found some more Luftwaffe wartime autographed postcards: Here is Wick, who was KIA: Schnaufer, the top night fighter ace with 121 night victories. Both of his crew, Rumpelhardt and Ganzler were awarded the Knight's Cross with the former being recommended for the Oakleaves: A wartime autographed postcard of Spate. I have a large 8x10 of him (postwar) but when I came across the wartime card for the low price I had to get it: Here is GFM "Smiling" Albert Kesselring. Notice this card is signed by him when he was a GFM but only had the Knight's Cross. He is in my Diamonds Collection: And finally a bomber ace: Baumbach, who was a JU-88 pilot and Swords recipient. His other 3 man crew were also Knight's Cross holders:
Bob thanks for sending me your listing. Incredible I must say and it appears a huge collection over many many years, am I right ? thank you for sharing a unique part of history with me, which makes my autograph collection seem quite puny
You're welcome Erich. You gotta start young. I've been collecting the autographed photos now for about 15 years or so. Of course I look at it and say, "Damn, why didn't I start this some 15 years earlier?" I could have had even better autographed photos and met many more of the veterans. But I'm still ahead of a lot of people that are just starting out. Bob
Thanx for sharing those excellent pics, Bob! The last one is rather interesting. At least I seldom have heard of such highly decorated bomber aces or their crews. Can you give any more detailed info on his actions? Thanx!
Better than that, Kai - you can read all about it in the man's own words : ' 'Broken Swastika - The Defeat Of The Luftwaffe' by Werner Baumbach ( Robert Hale, London 1960 ). Wick, Schnaufer...you have an incredible collection, Bob ! I am somewhat envious.....
Good reference Martin. I was going to have to wait until I got home in order to answer Kai's question but you're about 5+ hours ahead of me in just time zones! Thank you for the compliments on the collection... here is the shocker though... my autograph collection is just a side line -- a secondary collection! I don't put as much effort or resources into it as my primary! Bob
Bob wrote you a private this morn via ww2n system. did you receive it ? we are having electrical probs here in southern Oregon right now due to weather related strangeness.
got it, thanks friend ! reply given, and I am signing off as thunder is nearby back soon .......... hopefully ! E
Found a couple more of my wartime autographed postcards - Diamonds holders: Werner Molders and Wolfgang Luth.
Looking through my Luftwaffe Volume II, which has bombers, Stukas, Fallschirmjager, Flak, Transport, etc. in it, I found a couple more wartime signed postcards... General der Fallschirmjager Brauer (colored Willrich postcard), who was executed under military law together with General Friedrich-Wilhelm Muller on 20 May 1947. According to KNIGHT'S CROSS HOLDERS OF THE FALLSCHIRMJAGER by Franz Kurowski, General Brauer was delivered by the British to Greece, and sentenced to death even though there was no basis for the sentence. The other photo is Generaloberst Wolfrum von Richthofen, who commanded Luftwaffe units in Afrika, Stalingrad and Italy. I died in Allied captivity shortly after the war. Bob
As you can gather, I'm struggling to keep up with this ( ) but this one makes a nice little display ; obviously long post-war but signed by Galland, Rudorffer and Buchner : -
Not bad Martin. I've met Galland several times. My friend and I have been hoping to meet Rudorffer before it's too late. There are very few Swords holders left these days. Galland has been the only Diamonds recipient I've ever met. Bob
Gents keep this thread, going this is great materails and fotos. Ah to have a digi and a scanner.......a good German friend reached E. Rudorffer lately and Erich refused an interview as well as told him no more signing or anything anymmore, I'm getting much too tired. I am hearing this quite a bit this year of 2006 of both US and German veterans. Well let's deal with those we can meet shall we....and there are plenty E
Well here's another veteran who wouldn't sign much: Husemann (center), Luftwaffe night fighter ace with his crew and standing to his left is another Knight's Cross recipient Schierholz.
OK, here are my post-war pics! Heinz "Esau" Ewald Martin Drewes Peter Spoden When I find the time I will add my Allied signed pics to another thread.
Nice photo of Peter... that is probably an 'Afterburner' he is drinking... a double shot of pepper schnapps! He must still be in pilot training in this photo as he is still wearing what appear to be NCO shoulder straps. Bob
Finally got around to taking a pic of this one - obviously post-war, but nicely framed and signed by Oskar Romm, Karl Kennel, Arnold Doring, Franz Eisenach, Adolf Glunz and Hannes Weik...
