LOL, ya like that "wording"? It's kinda like something my English teacher told us. He said that a couple of years ago, there was a Chinese forign exchange student that came to his school. They were practicing a play and when they were done she replied and said... Acting bad... Singing bad... Music bad... It no good!
haha...gotta love the female Chinese foreign exchange students. They're just the best. anyway, I looked at the very beginning of this thread and I noticed that people were posting pics of their favs. so here mine are. System of a Down and their omnipotent and omnipresent awesomeness...and... The not-quite-a-band-but-still-cool Spinal Tap.
With a name like this what can I say? Prokofieff, Stravinsky, Tschaikovsky, Mussorgsky! Lots of Red Army chorals Heck, in my home we (or rather, I!) sing "Happy Birthday" to the tune of "L'Internationale". Swear it's true!! When in a relaxed mood, I revert to the 18th century: Bach (the entire family), Mozart, Salieri, Vivaldi, Handel, Charpentier, Purcell, Scarlatti, Telemann, Friedrich II of Prussia! Cheers,
Ike! I LOOOOVE SYSTEM! Some of my favorite songs are: "BOOM" "Aireals" (sp?) "A.D.D" "Chop Suey" "F*** the System" and "Metro" but there are sooooooooooo many good ones. DUCE
I am becoming something of an Elgar devotee, one of the finest composers ever IMHO. His Cello Concerto is one of those pieces that is beautiful, there is no other word for it.
Stefan, Sir Edward Elgar is indeed a very, very good composer. One of the greatest British classical composers there are (Ooops! Excuse me, there are only three British composers; Elgar, Britten and Purcell!) No, his "Variations" and "Pump and Circumstance" are very, very good. Glad you like him! Za, then you'll like to know that I enjoy Russian music and opera too (even if Tchaikovski's music isn't very Russian...). Hope I could sing it, but you need a very deep voice to do that... - my brother is very good at singing "Boris Godunov" arias. And I see you like baroque most of all. That's my favourite genre and the one I sing. My best is singing Händel's heroic rôles. Some months ago I played Julius Cæsar in "Giulio Cesare" with Mexico's National Opera. My sister was Cleopatra.
The sound of the Scots pipes playing in the distance across the battle field. It gave me lumps in my throat then..It still does today. Brian
Very glad to see you visitias of the forum, Mr. Guy! Hope you enjoy yourself! And I like the pipes a lot, too. Both, from Scotland and Asturias (Spain).
My favorite song is "Ride of the Valkyries." Everytime I hear it, I feel a rush of energy surge through me. It is also the theme song in Hearts of Iron.
I agree about the pipes, a lot of people cant stand them and when they play flowery pointless music they are not so good but martial music on the pipes is a fine thing. As for 'Ride of the Valckuries' (I cant spell) I agree that it is a fine piece but I prefer it in the wider context of the ring. I am one of those people who has a problem with 'popular classical' music simply because if you select bits of music and do not listen to the stuff that goes with it you can never apreciate the piece fully.
I agree with you, Stefan, about the popular classical music. Many people don't know that the "Ride of the Walkyres" is not a symphonic piece. I hate that almost all the time they leave out Brunilda's war cry (The typical fat woman dressed as a Viking). However, people who is not used to listen to classical music won't learn to love it if you don't start by showing them the popular and nicest pieces. Take a beginner to watch the whole "Ring of Nibelungs" and they'll hate opera and music for the rest of their lives!
Thats not true, I sat through it with my dad when i was 8 (the full opera, it was on video but hitched up to our hifi so the reception etc was great) and enjoyed it. Still do though I havent worked my way all the way through since.
Finnish music has not been very popular ( except for Sibelius ) but lately we´ve had some bigger pop bands arouns like HIM, and the Rasmus, which have done pretty well especially in Germany. And Darude´s "sandstorm" a couple of years back. Anyone heard of these and did you like it?
Well, that may be YOUR case, Stefan! But you're weird! Kai, isn't Apocallyptica also Finnish? My boyfriend has many of his albums... I'm not sure...
