Just wanted to know what you guys think of it....I'm going to go see it sometime this week. If it's half as good as the first one, it's gonna be great. I'm a little upset that Martin Sheen isn't going to be back as Lee though... But Duvall is a great actor and I read somewhere that he really wanted to do this role, so he should do it well. Il Duce P.S I've been away for so long because I've been sick.....joy.
Saw it! It's pretty good, not as good as Gettysburg, but meh. FX are okay. I don't know, maybe I was expecting too much outta it. But I'm going to go see it again on Saturday (oh the benifits of having "connections") Overall, I'd give it a 7.5 outta 10 Il DUCE
Its finally released here too, but I aint paying $8.50 to go see it--ill wait for the movie to go to the Dollar Cinema.
Mr. Evans, better go see it now, because according to Mr. Turner he used a significant amount of his dwindling fortune to produce and market the film. Poor guy, use to count his money in billions, but his AOL Time Warner stock has took a significant hit in the last year or so. Talk of another if it does well, otherwise he is through.
man that is a bummer ....... wonder if the flick will come out in video form sometime this fall or next year ? E
Not to worry--he still owns many other enterprises and still has hundreds of millions to spend. From what I have heard--this movie is doing pretty decntly at the box office. AND if Turner is hurting for cash--Definately he will release it on DVD and VHS. Gettysburg is already releasd--I just cannot afford to get it yet--but I do have it on VHS (Dubbed) of course.
So is Gettysburg a Turner release as well ? man I must have been snoozing as all I remember is the epic long film of about 5/6 hours done some years back for TV and then released on video..... E wondering..... !
Yep--Gettysburg was done by Turner. I first saw it when I was in College in Harlingen, Texas--former home of the Confederate Air Force .
JOL: The "other" you reffer to is already in the makings. It will be called "The Killer Angels" or something to that effect and will be based on Jeff M Shaara's first book of his Civil War trilogy (The Killer Angels, Gettysburg, Gods and Generals). Carl: Amazon.ca (or for you I'd guess it'd be Amazon.com) is a bit cheaper than anywhere else. It's where I ordered my DVD copy of Gettysburg from. And I agree with you on the Turner issue. Neat little fact: Turner makes a guest appearance in "Gods and Generals"...he's one of the soldiers along the railway that are singing. IL DUCE
Yes wait for the DVD because that version of "Gods and Generals" is no less than 7 hours long!! Yes that's right the original movie is 7 hours long but they cut it to fit in the theraters to 3 hours and 48 minutes (exact time limit for Mr. Spock ). Also Il Duce, the three books are "Gods and Generals", "Killer Angels", and "The Last Full Measure". The Killer Angels is what Gettysburg was based on. Gettysburg is a better marketing word . Greg
OK...Ron Maxwell is already working on the final installment of his Civil War trilogy, The Last Full Measure. In fact, casting calls for reenactors are going out...at least that is what I have been led to believe. Regardless of how well this movie does at the box office, Maxwell is committed to finishing the project. Remember, Gettysburg didn't do that great in its first release. Carl...save your money on the Gettysburg DVD for now. Supposedly, the extended version of G-burg will be released later this year with the DVD version of G&G, which itself will be an additional 3 hours in length!! I concur that G&G wasn't up to G-burg. But still a fine film. Stephen Lang's performance as Genl Jackson was phenomenal!! The only downside was that Maxwell made Jackson a bit chatty. But the instances that were portrayed were extremely accurate. Of note, the interaction with little Jane Corbin and the scenes of his wounding and his death stick with me.
Thank you for the info on G&G Duce. One thing I wish was that The Duke were around for this one--he's make a great cameo in there somewhere. Holy smokes Batman... Turner is in G&G--that should be interesting to see. Ivan--thanks for the info on the DVDs. Its going to be awhile before I recover from this move to a new apt. No worries on me able to afford on FINALLY sending those pics in March--I just have to unpack them and get them out to you.
I for one will gladly plunk down some cash for this DVD trilogy, loved Gettysburg, although at times I thought they could have thrown in some more extras? When R E Lee points to where he wants Longstreet to converge on with Picket's men, I can't even make out a REGIMENTAL flag as they scan the Union lines! A lot of the wide shots are barren, but hey I can use my imagination, at least it was the actual terrain.
I love the Line in the trailor They Both Carried the same Bible One side fought for God's Glory The other For his Kingdom on Earth But for the duration of the war God Refused to Take sides. God i love that!
Alright, I've seen it twice now (thanks to my "connections" I get in free ) But anyways, I agree CvM...the trailor line is great! Producers expect this film to do so well with Civil War enthusiasts that they've actually made a game to go with it. "GODS & GENERALS" is an online game, where you can choose your side and eventually work your way up through the ranks. Check out more at the Official Site IL DUCE
