As a history of the area all this is very interesting. However all it does, is show us that both sides have been on this land for over 2,000 years, so both have the right to live there. So we are back where we started . How can we get both sides to stop killing each other and live in peace
It doesn't matter, since no-one on this earth is going to change what is going on over there.....you mentioned over 2,000 years and they both have a right to live there. Go ask them yourself and U will get an earful of opinions who has the rightful claim.....I sure did ! by the way Jersusalem this time of year should be a cool 93 degree F, rather go down to Tel Aviv and bask on the Med. That's another story though. Be assured of this sickening thought. These two peoples will blast each other with the intent of anialating each other off the face of the earth. ~E
I actually disagree on the matter that both peoples have the right to live there. Of course the Israelis who were born there like their parents and grandparents and their ancestors for 5.000 years... But it was not fair that suddenly millions of people, descandants of people who had LEFT the region 2.000 years ago now come and claim that it's their land because the Bible say so. It was an irresponsibility of the British to permit that caothic immigration, because that people belonged to Europe, not to the middle East and because you are gathering two peoples who hate each other in a tiny piece of land. That's the perfect formula for disaster. But now It's DONE. The European Jews and their descendence already live there as well as the Palestinians. Now the only thing is that they most leanr to live peacefully. Ironically, even if its by force...
oh well that is what the forums are about anyway, rights to agree or disagree. I'll take the other side of the coin......the tribes were already in Israel when the Philistines came as invaders. Problem is now if and a monstrous if, the Philistines(Palestinians) left Israel where would they go. They are literally a people without a country. Also either believe what the bible says wholeheartedly or not at all. U can't accept only certain sections and discount the rest.... have some more interesting news about the west bank which is a major part of all of this hectic activity. There will be no resolve until......
OK. You are right there. But then the Palestinians and Israelis lived there for 2.000 years. After 2.000 years it became the Palestinians land as well as the British immigrants founded 13 colonies in the XVII century... And suddenly millions of European people, not Israelis, Europeans come in and kick you out of the land you have owned for 2.000 years...
------------I am sure that things will change now that we finally have leadership willing to deal with this situation. As problematic as the Isreali/Palestinian relationship is, Bush and Powell did the right thing in not dealing with Arafat, putting pressure on PLA to crack down on Hammas while getting the Isrealis to dismmantle their settlements. The Blue Max
I forsee more assainations or attempts in the near future. Arafat wants the control though he is losing it and he knows it. Hammas is strong and in fact out of control. Am somewhat surprised the Jewish military have controlled themselves for so long and not have set up prime "hit" squads to take out Arafat and his cronies years ago...... Fried you mentioned that 2,000 years ago the Land of Israel became the Palestinians. Where did the people of Israel go ? not all were taken off to captivity. Of course we could get into whose land the west bank really is. After the official state in 1948 Jordan came in an annexed it which is about 3/4rs of Israel and the negotiations are still trying to be worked out during this "stealing" of land. so whose is it anyaway ? Will there be peace, possibly but not a long standing one. ~E
You all have very valid points, but I would like to point one thing out: The Jews didn't leave their "homeland" by choice, they were forced out by the Romans in 70 AD(This is known as the Diaspora). Therefore, I believe that the Israelis DO hae more of a right to the land b/c the Palestinians(Philistines) are more or less invaders of an undefended homeland
Ah the fall of Masada. What a hot trail it is to run down this thing guys. My brother and I did it as my wonderful wife and others took a gondola down watching us fools drop down into the 115 F plus heat. A quick jump into the dead sea.....now that was absolutely gross ! stunk like I don't know what. Know wonder fish can;t live in that water.....arg ! Back on topic, the sack of Jerusalem and the burning down of the temple by Titus and the carrying away of the people of Israel....
I don't think there will be peace until both Arafat and Sharon leave. Also it's a shame that mostly the innocent suffer, and this includes the soldiers on both sides. I've heard that there's even discrimination between jews(arab jews and european jews). If there is going to be peace the Israel's have to either agree to the establishment of a free palestinian state or integrate(not assimilate) palestinians into israeli society. [ 21. WhenI jumped in it felt like I was in a huge vat of water with an oil scum on the surface. Israelie Torpedo boats were buzzing by at quick speed.......it was around 115 at the lake which is below sea level, no wonder it's dead... !E!
Ok so Sharon or whoever is in power cuts back military intervention in some of the Palestinian villages. Who then will tell Hammas to stop the suicidal attacks ? ~E
Someone might, they wont listen as there proven now. And this US roadmap to peace wont work, if Palestine becomes a nation there will still be bombings in Israel, and Israel will react by probably invading, and by then Palestine may have a MDP with Lebanon, Syria, or Egypt.
I have to say this although it stinks......but the only way that Hammas will understand is if you put a 120mm round down their throats. They have already promised to step up their resistance through suicide bombings. Arafat has no control over them and does not wish too and the new prime minister doing the talking for him is weak.
Erich you are totally right about putting a 120mm round down the throat of Hammas. But I believe that Israel must also be willing to either give the Palestinians their own state or integrate Palestinians into Israeli society.
I doubt the first will happen and the second has been done years ago but most probably only in Jerusalem, depending on where you visit. First in my mind is that Israel somehow gets Jordan to release the west bank to them......all of it and maybe this can become what the Palestinians are asking for though they want the Jews out and Jerusalem as their capital. ~E
No one CAN tell them to stop, but if they continue their suicide attacks( assuming Sharon doesn't retaliate) then there is no justification for any retailtiory strikes by Hammas, which could then lead to intervention of some kind by world opinion.
