Saw the dead bodies of Qusay and Uday in the swedish newspaper 'Aftonbladet'. On the frontpage:
    "The picture proofs:
    SADDAMS SHOT SONS
    is shown by the USA"
    [IMG] [IMG] Uday

Relation is very easy if you see it from a neutral point. Presenting dead enemies to the media is always a message.

Dead U.S.-Soldier dragged through the streets of Moghadishu (message: "See, we're the bosses here.")

Dead U.S.-soldiers shown on Iraq TV (Message: "That happens to the enemy who invaded us.")

Dead Saddam-sons shown on Iraq TV (Message: "Stop the guerilla fight, your heroes are dead.")

The hypocrite part is to complain if others do it (and censor it), and doining it by yourself.

    Cheers,

Guys, dont be fooled by the media over exposure of the photos. The intention of the pictures is to prove that they are dead and to hopefully cut down on the attacks on my compadres in Iraq. As was mentioned earlier, most people wont believe it until they see it so there they are. This isnt boasting, its about hopefully saving lives and showing that we will find you. Just can't help wondering what the reaction of some countries would have been if, for instance, this tactic had been used against the IRA....

The same justification could easily have been made.

The same tactic wouldn't work with the IRA, Martin, because there is/are no visible leaders. No one will admit complicity. Even Sinn Fein 's political leaders deny knowledge of IRA activity.

The point is being missed, here. I'm not saying that it would have worked ( after all, are any of us sure that it'll work in the Middle East ? ? ) I'm saying that it could have been equally justified.

    ie :

    a) 'To save lives' ; killing IRA bombers would demonstrably have saved lives
    b) 'To show that we will find you' ; the faces would have meant nothing to people on the UK mainland, but people in Ireland would have known them.

But again, this is not the point. If it's OK for the USA to do this, others will see it as OK.

IMHO, to do this is not the behaviour of civilised peoples.

You are right, Martin. I apologise for missing your point.

While there is a certain ghoulish element to the human mindset, (who hasn't slowed down going past a traffic accident?) it does not make it right to display "The Enemy" after the fact.

Having said that, tho' it brings to mind the photographs of 'Il Duce' and his mistress after their execution, any number of photos of mobsters 'in exteremis' Were those photos effective in preventing anything at all?

    I don't think so.

    Please excuse my rambling.

No apology needed, KmPok, I'm just glad I made the point clear.

I've just read in today's papers that the corpses involved involved have been shaved and 'reconstituted' ( :( ) to look more convincing.... And with that, I think I shall leave this topic and return to WWII.

You guys are right, this is to much a matter of opinion. I didn't mean for this thread to come to this. Just trying to share news and pics that someone might not have heard or seen yet.

    I'm out too! ;)

What is missed is that The reason that they are shown is because they KNEW that the Arab world would not believe what we claimed we did--so they HAD to publish these pictures--so that our claim would be believed.

Oh and--I have no opinion on this. Cheers.

Carl, opinionless....hey brother were both learning then...

No Carl, as I stated in a post on this thread, I have to agree, the Arab world is a different world from the one we live in. Thats not putting anyone down just seems to be a fact of life.

Im not going to even mention the Japanese.

I agree with what you say, but why is it all over my front page, Im not Iraqi and my sons and my neices are not killing coalition troops.

I live in Northampton England not Baghdad.

Getting petrol today, I cant and my kids cant miss it, its everywhere emblazoned in glourious technicolour.

Ive taught my kids were the goodies mostly.

They have their own minds and are seeing things through different eyes.

Do they need to have these pics thrust down their throats? And no I cant censor them, they are everywhere. My favourite home page opens with them on, and even Aol when they open news page.

I just think in the war of barbarity against civilisation, by putting them all over OUR media weve just equalised the game at half time.

The Iraqis needed proof, fine I can understand that, my mum didnt and wasnt interested till now.

Hi Urgh--I can't answer any other party's reasons for continuing to show those pics except that now it's probably for nothing else than for propaganda reasons.

    Again--not an opinion--just a statement.
