As I'm all brand shiny new here I thought I'd get in a quick heads up to say hi. I'm hoping to incorporate WWII history into my psychology/philosophy degree and am particularly interested in the holocaust, so if anyone is up for a chat that would be great, especially if they happen to be knowlegable in said field and are just itching to pass on said knowledge. :D
Are there many women here? Or am I out gunned out classed and out manouvered? (Don't you believe it boys [IMG] )
Assuming theres a virtual bar in here, if someone would like to point me in the right direction Ill get a round in.

Well it's a little difficult to serve spirits over the web, I keep trying, but my computer shorts out every time I pour a beer over the hard drive. [IMG]
I can't say there are many women here, but I'm sure you might find a few members willing to pretend. [IMG]

Seriously though, the closest thing to the Bar here is the Free Fire Zone, where you will find a good number of knowledgeable members, all who are willing to chat intelligently on all manner of WWII topics.

Maybe your computer is more of a whisky man? :D

Ill bet there are quite a few members here who would look great in a skirt.

Seriously though, cheers for the welcome and I look forward to intelligent discussions of all kind. Maybe a few silly ones too.

Otto, maybe a liquid cooled computer/server is the answer! I know it did wonders for my social life!

Welcome aboard Ezri! Hope we'll be able to chanllenge you (in a positive way) and act as a sounding board in your particular field. I am not that well read into the holocaust, but am interested in in psychological result of combat in WWII and the studies conducted in that field. There has been a short thread on this before, I remember.

    Greetings,
    Stevin

May I extend my welcome too? I am pleased we have another woman here, as for some reason we don't seem to attract many, even if this is a pretty much "decent" and moderate place when compared to others, but that's the way things are, what can we do?

So, ask away, there will always be someone ready to help, I'm sure.

    Cheers,
    Miguel

    Hello!

I did the Holocaust as part of my degree. I also have a few bits from lecturing, not much but some of it may be of use to you!

Welcome aboard, mines a LARGE G&T!

As I said in other thread, welcome aboard, Ezri. [IMG] This is the right place to come, since we're all well-behaved boys (and some girls as well, unfortunately, who have been absent for quite a while… :( ) who never insult each other (only throw lots of sarcastic and poisonous remarks here and there :D ).

I've just realised with this sentence a contradiction in Gordon: being a hardcore tory he is a tatcherian, and the last remark sounded rather funny to me!!! :D [IMG] (Sorry, couldn't resist…)

Errr… you have someone in particular in mind? :D

As a final note, Ezri, please feel free to ask any questions and add to old topics about anything you want. The Holocaust has not been discussed in a very large extent in here, but we can do so now. It's a delicate and hard-to-swallow matter, but we tend to keep things quite civilised in here. Specially, any prejudiced or revisionist crap is out of the question.

    Again, welcome! ;)

Thank you one and all for a great welcome!

Stevin, I LOVE a good challenge and as I have an annoying knack of seeing a silver lining in every cloud even negative wont stay that way too long. ;) Where does your interest in psychological trauma from WWII stem from? It's certanly something, among many things, Id be very interested in having a real good chinwag about. As I'm still negotiating with the OU about freeing some time up to study WWII alongside my psychology/philosophy it's not something I know much about academically yet. I have however spoken to people who have personal experience in the matter.

Historian, oh dear! I only came on here really because I thought there would be lots of service people who could do the ironing much better than me. Y'see, being the roughty-toughty biker that I am, a good crease to me is usually found in the T-shirt you slept on at the last rally!! :D
Oh hang on, I'm letting woman kind down here! This is where I should be complaining about the level of sexism on this site, especially from you Historian. Ok then, erm, yes, I'm really offended, really, cant you tell ;)
PS, wheres the kitchen then? [IMG]

To be honest Za Rodina, the subject of war will always be a male dominated area, no matter how pc the forces get or how moderate a group is. But personally speaking I've been in a minorty all to myself my whole life and I ain't about to stop now! :D I've just learned to shout a bit louder, any excuse to shout really. [IMG]

Red, cheers, I'm sure anything you have to pass on will be most helpful. Having only been interested in this subject for a few months I'm still pretty green and have so far only looked in depth at Sobibor, Auschwitz and the history of the SS, I still have so much to learn. So anything anyone can pass on, be it fact n figures or their own opinions/experiences, will be listened to with intent. You want ice in your large G&T?

Friedrich H, Insults? Sarcasm? Poisonous remarks? I'm home!! :D
Yes the holocaust is a delicate matter to discuss and it is sometimes easy to offend people when asking questions sometimes because it's hard for them to understand what the questioners motives are. All I can say is, allthough I enjoy humour and a bit of friendly banter (and despite the fact that I'm a roughty-toughty biker) I will always be civilised and the first to apologise if I stick my foot in it!
My mission is to find out all that I can in order to pass our history on to as many of the next generation who will listen, in whatever way I can. Oh and I hate prejudice in any form, but I dont mind women jokes at all. [IMG]

    Ooh touche Friedrich! :D
I do have a habit of planting my feet under the nearest table. However, I can't be held fully responsible this time, after all, it was you guys who made this particular table so welcoming. So it's your fault!
I may be out numbered but I do have female logic on my side. [IMG]
