You bet. Quite a few are arrested. SOme in the days/weeks after the explosions. Then you had the stand off which ended with 5 of them or so blowing themselves up about 8 months ago. I think even three weeks ago they arrested another group. What caught my attention is that people were arrested in the UK, Holland and Germany who are know to have been in Iraq, involved with attacks on US and Iraqi forcs. In the case of the Iraqi in Holland they even found videotape of the guy being involved in preparation of roadside bombs in Iraq. It is feared that "foreign fighters" go to iraq to gain training and then go back to Europe/the US to raise havoc there. Also, it apprears that virtually all suicide-bombers in Iraq are foreigners. Not Iraqis. I hope we hear from Martin soon too!
More details on yesterday´s bombings: Of the 300 people admitted to hospital on Thursday, about 80 remain, either convalescing after emergency surgery or too badly burned to return home. Scotland Yard have confirmed seven people died in the Liverpool Street explosion, while 21 lost their lives at the King's Cross blast and another seven were killed at Edgware Road. Two people died in the explosion on a double decker bus at Upper Woburn Place. It is thought the death toll could rise on Friday. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4662395.stm Hoping also that Martin is alright! [ 08. July 2005, 06:44 AM: Message edited by: Kai-Petri ]
God I hope so! After getting Chinese crackers thrown at them by so-called 'Anarchists' the other day, every horse on the farm has turned into a killer. Two of these cretins tried to grab my daughters' reins while the crackers were exploding, so she thrashed the crap out of them with her riding crop. Irate locals have been wandering the area in heavily-armed vigilante gangs for the last two days; several 'G8 protestors' have been hospitalised so far, and their 'eco camp' had to be physically surrounded by Police to protect it from the locals!
Glad to hear that grass root action is taking hold in your community, Gordon! I consider myself pretty open-minded but I have had experiences with so-called "travellers" in the UK and Squaters here in Amsterdam that has lowered my tolerance level to this group of "anarchists' to zero. Have you ever tried talking to these people? I don't know what the English saying is, but in Holland we say 'they have a plate in front of their head'; there is no discussing with them. They just want to be right and bitch about everything, especially society. A waste of time. Good for your daughter for trashing them!
Stevin, It's sad that locals have felt moved to this sort of extreme, but we're entitled to defend ourselves. Police have said that all of those arrested for rioting in Bannockburn and Stirling on Wednesday came from Germany and Russia. 'Nuff said. They also said that of the 5000 people in the local eco-camp, 3000 were known to Police before arriving. And the Council still ignored Police advice to close the camp. However......the local equivalent expression you're looking for is 'a head full of mad dog's piss'! Still no word of anyone claiming responsibility for London. Police now have eye-witness reports of a man on one of the buses frantically diving in and out of his holdall seconds before the blast, so the bomb might have gone off prematurely while in transit. On the (faintly)bright side, that's one of them less.... Still no word of Martin, anyone? Bet he's stuck at work in the city until he can get a lift home. Either way, hope he's ok.
Most people have managed to get home, my mate walked from Leicester Square to Edgeware last night and couldn't even tell his mother he was ok. I am starting to worry about Martin, hope for the best though. Not sure I agree with comments about hate but I do agree that things were much more calm than on 9/11 but the two are hardly the same. The police seem to have remained calm, directed people to safe areas and dealt with things admirably considering their numbers. The plans for such emergencies worked well and things will be up and running again by wednesday I reckon.
I'm just glad that no major building was hit like 9/11. I also applaud the effective and efficient actions of the London rescue teams and police force. All you Englanders should be proud. On a side note, T.A. I respect you for your incredible knowledge of history but your political values leave something to be desired. I agree that we need to more aggressive in fighting terrorism but we can't be too extreme. By rounding up entire racial/religious groups of people, we demean ourselves to virtual Nazi's. Instead, find out the source of how terrorism is funded/created and stop it. We are fighting a different war now, the "enemy" doesn't wear a uniform and present it's leader. They are faceless, cowardly and evil. And they recruit weak-minded, economically-disadvantaged individuals. Instead of assuming an ignorant, kill em all! mentality, sit down and try to analyze the roots of the problem and stop it that way. We of all people should know the horrors of unhindered, global-scale fighting. Hasn't WWII taught us that war should be avoided at all costs?
If the Mosquito group he is in has a web page, perhaps one of them knows how to contact him. Unfortuntly I forgot the name of the group.
I wouldn't worry about Martin gentlemen. I know that he wasn't in the London area during the attacks, and I also know that he doesn't have access to a computer for a few days, which is the reason he's not posting. However let's hope all Forums members from London made it through the attcks ok.
I forgot that Otto, thanks for reminding us. Hope Boston was fun. Stevin, I think it's just me, Martin and Greenjacket (he's ok, my mate who walked back from London), just waiting for Martin to call in when he is able to get online.
There have been bomb scares and a controlled explosion in Birmingham tonight. These also happened in Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy on Thursday, but no word on whether any of them are connected to the London bombings.
Thanks for the thoughts, everyone - by the most frustrating and bizarre coincidence, my computer hard-drive crashed the day before the attacks, and I'm only just now back online. What can I say that hasn't been said ? On a personal level, I was out of town that day, but my wife commuted through Edgware Road Station about 20 minutes before the suicide murderer struck there. Yes, I was very worried there for a while. But what was great - I mean, really great - was that on the Sunday we went to The Mall on a gloriously hot day with 500,000 others to see the veterans march past followed by two B-17s, two B-25s, three C-47s, the BBMF and the Lancaster dropping the Poppies.... Best of all was when the march-past was preceded by an open-topped Range Rover in which stood an elderly Lady in a big hat, waving at us from about twenty yards away. The Queen. No bullet-proof glass, not hemmed in by security guards ( they were in a following car ). Three days after a major terrorist outrage. I'd never actually seen her before in my life. OK, I'll admit it. In that moment I thought : '**** the terrorists !'. And I felt proud to be British.....
Welcome back Martin, Glad you and the wife are both ok. The veterans' marchpast looked some sight-pity I wasn't there to see it. And as usual, Her Majesty was an inspiration. Personally, I'm glad to see patriotism back in fashion.
Glad to hear you are OK, Martin! I saw the whole thing on TV, especially liked the bombing of the poopies. Leave it to the British to stage something like that. Almost made me feel sorry I wasn't British! Also, the Trafalgar Sail past last week (?) was also great, but you can't beat such a fly past and march by veterans. I am glad to say that the Netherlands FINALLY have their Veterans Day. This year was a first, will be an annual thing. Finally some recognition for Holland's veterans...
Very glad you're back, Martin! And thanks a lot for the comments. The Queen, the parade and the veterans show precisely that the f****** terrorists are messing with the wrong lads!!!
