    Hey,
Does any play Civilization III or Europa Universalis II ?

I picked up these two games this weekend (first time for either series) and thought i would share a few thoughts.

Civilization III is great. You can be one of 16 (maybe more, i dont know off the top of my head) civilizations - from the Romans to Zulus to Americans. Your *country* evolves through the years, starting as a barbaric tribe who knows pottery to a civilization with the Pentagon and other such wonders. Inbetween all of this, is diplomacy, trade, expansion, war, civil disorder, shange in goverment, culture (which can cause your own/enemies border cities to change sides. Borders expand as culture does.

So far, i have played as the Romans and British. As th British, I am playing on the world map (started in Asia) which i have dominated. my three African territories keep switching hands with the Russians (south africa) as most of my forces are dealing with the Germans in Europe. The French (northern Asia) and Americans (south America) are allied with me against the Germans. The Zulus are in Australia, while Aztecs are in North America. Great game all around.

Havent played Eu 2 yet, but it looks promising (with over 200 countries to play starting in 1200 (i think) thru 1800.

I have not played CivIII but I have played CivI & II. Same concept but better graphics each time. Wonder if there are any significant improvements on III. Yeah, I enjoyed the game as well.

I have played the entire Civ-series, and while basically the same amazing engine, there are several things that annoyed me in Civ3. Firstly you cannnot airlift those pesky workers and leaders. Not really realistic, since you can airlift armoured and artillery units. Secondly, while I like the general idea with the cultural influence areas, it is annoying to see the computer players build in EVERY single gap of your area, forcing you to build crappier cities in order to present a solidly populated territory.
However, I do like the special units, and special civilization characteristics. The graphics have not changed much since the original Civs, and the lack of Multiplayer support is not great either.

The way the computer builds cities like that pisses me off too. But it shouldn't be that much of a problem if you make them withdraw from your territory the second they try to cross it. If they build a shitty city it will likely turn over to you eventually from the cultural influence.

They are supposed to be adding mulitplayer support eventually.

As for Europas Universalis II, this game is really great but right now it is still pretty buggy it crashes alot. After a few more patches it should be fine (they elected to do the testing after releasing it). You can pretty much do anything the Kings of that era did, it goes from the 1400s to 1800s. You can also play all kinds of historical scenarios like the Napoleonic wars. People are always making new ones that you can download off of the website.
