Came to my mind: Actually Germany declared war only on the US before attacking, all the other German offensives were surprise attacks. Do I have it right, I wonder?

Yes, you are right, Kai. But we must stop discussing this matter in this very thread. Open a new one and let's leave the quiz alone.

    Erich, you turn!

OK, since I searched the web for this one, this is just a guess-

but was it an Albatross DII?

You know my knowledge in this area, Erich- close is good enough for me! :D

Crazy I can tell you want this so bad you can taste it. I was first going to say myself what the heck is an Albatros D. 2 but it came into sevice as an early and late versions the difference was the radiator system and also the nose development which on the early ones had an escape portal off the exhaust system and the latter was kept open but with an escape tube for the exhuast jetting outward and then back towards the upper wing through the later radiator which was included in the ceneter section of that particualr wing. Bizarre set-up but it worked.

What I have from and extensive and older data base is that he had 35 kills. 36 is close enough for me but the a/c is and was not an Albatros. In fact it was an .......... well it was the most underrated fighting plane in 1917. Built in Speyer by Brüder Everbusch. this a.c was sent to the lesser staffels as politics kept the Albatros into production. In fact the British never brought one of these partuclat a/c down intact or recognizable behind Allied lines until 1918 when the a/c was treated as a new GErman a/c.....
It was a better dog-fighter and better in the dive-recovery than the Albatros. The top German Balloon busters said the a/c had no equal.......what is it ?

Actually, Erich, it was more of a case that I was thrilled to have free time at work! I've posted recently from work, but rarely had the time to really explore and search for something.
    Always like a challenge! ;)

But I got's no clue on the aircraft...

another hot clue.......except for the two wing spars which are thicker the a/c looks very similiar to the Albatros and in fact it was called the Albatros D IV by the British.......uh oh I think I gave it away now

    guess ?

Huh ? I thought my two part question was simple enough to understand. Crazy was close with the victory tally but did not have the correct WW 1 German a/c. Whcih one was the preferred anti-balloon a/c in the German arsenal ? not the Albatros as I pointed out........

    is this clear now ?

Who are the only corps in the military who don't 'break belts and drop slouch' in a bar?
