Certainly Germany had some great technological advancements. The one advance that counted most was mass production, (especially in America), but I'm not sure if mass production is considered technology.

Though the Americans hand weapons were much more advanced, the germans defintely had the edge in armored units.

America and Germany had the lead by far. America and Germany were on par with almost all technology. The only real technological advancements that the Germans had over the Us were in rocketry. The US had plans for a jet aircraft and were in the development stages along with Germany. The Germans had better tanks, though this was not a technology gap... it was a matter of experience and trial and error. Had the US not proceeded with the massive bombing campaign against Germany's research facilities, the Germans might have made the bomb too.

The Germans were ahead in the atomic research until the war. Hitler concentrated on those projects that could be produced immediately. The Americans then jumped ahead with the help of emigrated German scientists. Those technologies that the americans started were then obsolete when the Germans focused on such tasks as the radar. Germans by far.

I agree with everyone who said that America, and Germany had the best technology for weapons. England has to come in as a third because they had radar defences, and the Polish have to come in because they developed the Enigma machine.

Now, an interesting question to ask would be, Who had the worst technology in developing weapons in WW2?

I think the Polish lancer cavalry charge against the German tanks takes the cake.

Yeah, Snefru, I would definitely agree with that. Well, at least they tried.

The French and Chinese would definitely be the ones. They are included because they were involved in the signing of the surrenders in each respective theater.

    HUZZAH!!!
The "anti-tank cavalry charge" is PURE MYTH!
Polish cavalry charged a German infantry unit, which was backed by armored units which executed a "cavalry charge" of their own, dispersing the Poles...
Also, recall that ALL European forces relied to some degree on horses. Even the vaunted Wermacht retained horsedrawn elements and couriers on horseback 'til war's end.

Well I'd say that the United states and Britian were most technologiclly advanced because their technologies actually helped alter the war.
The A-bomb, effective long range bombers, RADAR, radios carried in the field
those points seem minor but they all played major roles for the allies while the germans had
Jets, rocket planes, and ballistic missles, guided bombs, acoustic torpedoes, sub snorkel, BUT did they contribute THAT much to their war effort...they came so late that there role was nothing more than a shock and thats it!
I'd say the worst country for developing technology was Japan. Although pretty much up to date at the out break of war...the Japanese never developed effective tanks. There long lance torpedoes were surperb but our radar was more effective than their eyes and searchlights. Their airforce was effective but by 1945 they were still fighting with the same model pretty much. Japan never advanced significantly from 1942 and was left in the dust.

    America had more advanced handweapons??

I care to disagree here. Except for the garand, which was a superb rifle, the German weapons were much better. Germans used cheap means of producing weapons such as the MG42 and MP 40, and the ultimate winner for the Germans was of course the MP 44 Sturmgewehr. Americans used old weapons, and it was not until the M14 design that american weapons really started to get modern and superior.
The MG42 is reckoned to be one of the best weapon designs ever. Same goes for the MP44.
German anti tank weapons were also superior.

i wouldn't say the US used old weapons...look at the colt .45 and Garand M-1. plus their .35 and especially there .50 caliber machine guns wern't exactly behind the times. The US .50 is still used today! The US had a superb rifle compared to the german mauser...which was bolt action. Their weapons technology WAS better however i'll give them that...in the field of sub-machine guns and light machine guns like Mg-42 there were excelent! Plus they developed the gun that would turn into the Ak-47.
BUT i wouldn't say the US used old weopons...besides...technology is used to win wars...whose technology helped who more? The allies technology had more impact on the war than german technology. Though what the germans did do was impressive.

Something that I have to add about which rifle was better--the Garand or the Mauser. What made the Garand better than the Mauser was that the Garand was not bolt-action and you could fire more rounds quicker and more effectivly, than by having to constantly work a cumbersome bolt between firing shots.

I own one of each rifle. They are both most excellent weapons. If they both were bolt action, I would take the Mauser anyday.

I agree that both America and Germany had the most advanced weaponry and tactics in the war. There isn't much to argue with the United States because they were able to develop a massive bomb capable of destroying entire cities. This bomb ended the war in favor of the allied forces.

the allies technology had more impact on the war only because their technology was there in larger nrs.

I still reckon that if both us and german army were equal in numbers (personnel and equipment) german troops would win 8 out of 10 fights. superior tanks, guns, soldiers (at least up until end of 1944)

i'd have to say that the Italians werent that great either, in terms of technology. Look at the North African campaign - hardly any mechanical troops and tons of Infantry with outdated equipment! Most still used weapons from The Great War and they didnt develope much in WWII. Remeber that tiny tank they developed? It was like a pee-shooter! Some of their planes were decent, though not much can be said about their navy.

    Any other pointers?
