    Hi to all

Want to learn more but dont know where to begin.

    Here is what I am interested in;

    Books on,

    Covering the whole war
(too vague??) Not too heavy but not too light.

    Overlord

    Commandos

    Spies

    Underground/Resistance

Yeah that should keep me busy for a while.

    Awesome forum

    Cheers in advance

    Ant :)

Welcome to the forum Dobbs. This one is good to start of with:

the Second World War: An Illustrated History
    By A. J. P. Taylor
    Published 1975
    Hamish Hamilton

Not too much but enough details to educate.

The Second World War (ISBN 0-670-82359-7)
and Six Armies in Normandy (ISBN 0-14-005293-3) both by John Keegan

There are a multitude of books on individuals and small units that can give a good history of the war also, if you want to read them. Let us know if you do.

    "Spies

    Underground/Resistance"

"Secret Agents, Spies, and Saboteurs" by Janusz Piekalkiewicz, English translation 1973 (originally published in German).

    Excellent introduction to the topic.

For the Pacific and CBI theaters:

"Eagle Against the Sun: The American War with Japan" by Ronald Spector.

An excellent overview of the campaigns in the Central and Southwest Pacific as well as Burma.

Hello, gents.....I'm new to the forum, and this is my first post.....

so, I'm just gonna dive in head first.....

OVERLORD - I highly recommend A Bodyguard of Lies by Anthony Cave Brown
    - it's a great treatise on the espionage/counter-espionage/disinformation campaign in the lead up to Overlord

UNDERGOUND/RESISTANCE - The Jedburghs by Lt. Col Will Irwin is a real good read about the forerunners of American 'Special Ops'.

    -both are really good books.

    -whatever

Keegan's Second World War is a good one-volume intro, and Richard Overy's Why the Allies Won is an excellent discussion of some of the major themes (technology, economics, leadership, naval and aerial warfare etc)
