I have an Irish buddy who could drink for three days straight, spending two weeks paychecks in the process. He doesn't drink any longer. I wonder why ? I've another friend who's Scotts/Irish/Cherokee. Now there's three of a kind (the drinking kind). Same for him, no more binging, for the cost of it (long term, short, or immediate).....is everything. I don't envy, and can't even fathom the size and extent of their "Hangovers". By Eleven O-Clock I'm done and gone home. Moderation (as Skipper said) in all things, brings more enjoyment than the multiple pains of excess.
I like the taste of beer but don't like the tipsy feeling that goes along with it. I usually drink them only with meals and usually only one. The most you might see me drink is two WHOLE beers in a day, at lunch and then at dinner. Occasionally I will have a glass of wine, but rarely. I could not tell you the last time I had hard liquor. A six-pack has been known to hang out in my fridge for 6 months. I don't understand the desire to get schockered anymore, although I used to get knee-walking regularly when I was in college. It just ain't worth it for me to have my liver and head p-oed at me anymore. I was not raised around alcohol, my entire family being Baptists. There just wasn't/isn't any drinking, period, at family functions.
The last bit of hard drink I had was over a year ago. I had the tiniest of amounts of Jack Daniels in a shot class. I had it only becuase we were toasting a friend's B-Day. I always thought I would not like that stuff and, after trying it; I found that I hated it. Anyway, im called a Teetotaler because I don't drink beer of liquor. However, if one offered a snifter of Cognac ((pronounced: Kog Nack ;-)) - just kidding) i'd drink that.
Cognac.....my brother sips on that stuff all night long. For me? Jack Daniels if you please! Sloniksp, Come on into the great 20th state and get you some a pappy's corn squeezin'!
Ordering a "Pudsqueezer" in London?!!! Hell, I wouldn't drink that cat piss here let alone somewhere where they actually have good beer on tap! I may have low standards being a squid but by God I do have some and Anhilliator-Busch products don't meet them. Hey Slipdigit, you're gonna have to go over to wherever it is that Wilconqr is in your state and slap that boy upside the head.
He's over in Mississippi, or as we say it "Mi-sippi". He's probably closer to David Layne from WW2talk than I am. Maybe he arrange to parachute in, adding to the 4000 he's already done, do the necessary slapping around, then head on back to his abode? I do pass through that way going to the Crescent City on occasion, although it's been over two years.
Heh, heh, heh...Well Giligan, I like my Budweiser. In my opinion, it's the best thing you can find in any convenience store in the states without going into the city to find a micro-brewery or ordering it from AmWay or wherever it is you get whatever it is to meet "your" standards.
Bud the best beer ? Wil you really need to follow me on a beer tasting pilgrimage. The Belgians and the Germans must be spilling thier coffee on their keyboard right now. The St Louis taste is okay , but it's too weak for me. However, I actually managed to find a decent beer in the U.S. after a long search and that is Leinenkügels from Chipuawua Falls in Wisconsin. It reminds of a true pils. My choice for British beer goes to Newcastle Brown. The best beer in the world for me is Orval from Belgium. It is brewed by monks in the original medevial way, and since we are all sinners , the tasting used to take place from 5.00am to 6.00am at the monastry....
But, notice I said "best...in the states." Also, I never said that Bud was stronger or more potent than any other beer. It's just that while I was in London, I couldn't seem to get fixed on any one of "their" beers and so, being the conservative I am, I just naturally asked for something I knew I liked and left it at that. And don't get me wrong, I think a lot of those brews are super! The whole drinking beer out of a glass thing threw me off a bit and, when drinking the hard stuff, I don't think (and I could be wrong here) that whatever you choose to drink as a beer chaser really matters. As for the hard stuff, I've always been partial to a good whiskey, rum and occasional bourbon (100% American by the way). I also like my homemade muscadine wine and that clear stuff that grandpa sold years ago to make ends meet. Now, if there's anything stronger than that, then friend, this ole boy just don't need it.
homemade muscadine? Sounds nice. We have a drink called "Poire" which is distilated pear alcohol, the Russians can't drink that one. ("drushia" or something they called it in russian before they collapsed)
Wilcon, There is a great brewery close to you on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain- Abita. I love the Amber, which is sold here in the local Publix. I imagine you could find it the town I assume you live in or near, judging from the university you attend. I'm not much of a fan of the Budweiser, or as my buddy calls them, Buttwipers. I used to drink Buds when I was in college, but I lost the taste for it when I quit drinking just to get drunk.
Budweiser, the best beer in the States??? I will take my Sam Adams over that carbonated urine any day of the week!
i prefer Heineken! a good Dutch beer! but i have always wondered if it tastes the same over there as it does here! my relatives always say that american beer is watered down!?
Hell I love English beer, and wish I had a year to taste a bunch of em. We don't get many varieties here so I make do with what's available. We have a little beer book that we check off (as we try). I enjoy Stouts, Porters, Taddy Caster, Ales, and everything in between. The darker the better. We have a home brew here called Coal Porter which I buy frequently, Bar Harbor Maine = Baa Haa Baa. She drinks beer too, (a major boon) and we enjoy the sample trays at certain "Home Brew" restaurants. Not being able to afford to travel the world, we do it with beer. No doubt some are Pe Pe De Cabio, others are fantastic. The list is to long to name, but I like English beers best. Hands down.
Well Skipper, Bud is a little better than Old Swilwaukee or the Green Death, I've had many a long neck and pounder in my day but good..... Try these on for size New Castle Brown Ale, my staple Sam Adams Lager, an old stand by MacAndrews Scotch Ale, I sometimes have a sweet tooth Guiness Stout, from the tap, poured correctly, by itself or with Harp for a Black and tan. A shot of Jameson goes nice as well. A nice Brunello, smack, "You were drifting" "What?" "Be Warned! You were drifting" "It won't happen again" Sharif Ali The reliable key from North Germany, Becks, An acquired taste Stella Artois the Euro version of Bud, good for darts or as we say in Southie, Daaats. And now back to the game
Hadn't heard of it refered to inthis manner. Fits it well for it is as bad as Milwaukee's Beast and Schitz Beer. One big corporate beer I will drink is Miller Genuine Draft, but not too much of it, as per my normal limit. I wouldn't want to drink it very regularly but it does okay. I drank a Heinie with dinner tonight. First in a long time. I had forgotten about the bad taste that stays in my mouth long after drinking it. I doubt I will ever drink another. If it had been much worse, I would thought about licking my butt to get the taste out my mouth.
