I know that. I just didn't know there were so many, some real obscure ones on there.

Quite an interesting list to see all the countries together like that. I note that the Mongolian People's Republic went out on a limb, and boldly took the plunge to enter the war...on August 9, 1945... :D

The site has "Russia" on the list as entering the war on June 22, 1941 though, big boo-boo. As far as I know the entire Union of Soviet Socialist Republics entered the war on that day, not just the Russian republic.

(Yeah, maybe I'm nitpicking, but it's a pet peeve of mine.)

Some dates are as well questionable but I guess it is about one´s taste again.

I would think USSR took part as it invaded Poland in Sept 1939 or at the latest as it attacked Finland in Nov 1939. Even if peace was between countries USSR had taken land that wasn´t its own before the war.

    Great list.

    Here are Axis nations:

    - Germany
    - Italy
    - Japan
    - Hungary
    - Romania
    - Slovakia
    - Bulgaria
    - Finland —not formally an ally, but co-beligerant

At first glance, notice it misses Jamaica out of that list, probably few others too. But fair old list of participants.

Hey, just realised, the list doesnt include Ireland, although I suppose they were a neutral country many many mad Irish men considered it their war too and thousands joined in the fight, icluding my own dad and relations.

Any war any place and threre's bound to be a mad paddy around...

Just to clarify Southern Ireland (Eire, Rep of Ireland) was independant since 1922. The north (northern Ireland, Ulster) remains part of the UK today and would be part of the United Kingdom

Eire was neutral during the war, I'm not trying to open a can of worms, (as has happened on other threads) but just clarify Irelands relation to the UK at that time.

Jamaica isn’t mentioned probable because it was consider part of Great Britain and had no choice about whether or not to go to war, like Scotland, Wales, etc. I don't think that Jamaica had its independence until 1962.

Ernst, Was part of colonies rather than Great Britain as such. But saying that and yes you are right, as Kenya and rest not mentioned, but think they should be none the less. India is mentioned as a seperate state when their indpendence was not granted until after ww2 aslo.
But getting off point a bit.

If we dont name the individual Colonies then we do them a disservice.
