Hi Jeff, I did look at the menu before posting ;-)) and that's where I got my opinion from ;-)) Also, they are trying to "hide" the kind of food they are serving by calling it Southwestern-which is another name for Mexican food. Don't get me wrong, I like many of the items listed on their menu but, and ask Ike about this, there aint no comparing of Mexican food there to the kind tou get here. Im serious. Back a long time ago and in a Galaxy far far away, we were going on the trip of the lifetime to California-and were going to stay away for a month. Travelling in a 32 foot mobilehome-13 people untill we got to Oklahoma, then we made our way to New Mexico to visit some relatives we had not seen for about 10 years. Well, the night before we arrived in Carlsbad (home of zillions of bats residing in Carlsbad Caverns) we stopped in some town just a short drive across the border from Texas. I ordered what I normally order when eating Mexican food-that is--before I discovered Fajita's. I had a plate 2 cheese Inchalada's, rice and refried beans-and 2 four tortillias came with it. The enchilada's came from a can and were not hade from scratch at that restaurant. The refried beans were also froma can, and the tortillias were also from the ready made crap kind that you find in grocery stores. Needless to say, most of us ordered plates of Mexican food at this restaurant, not a one of us hardly ate any of it because it was THAT bad. We would up getting some hamburgers from a nearby McDonalds. As we went through Douglas, Bisbee and Tombstone, Arizona, the Mex food was still pretty bad but much better than it was in New Mexico. Finally we made it to California-staying in Victorville over night so we could tour the Roy Rogers Museum-that is no longer there but I think is now in Tennessee? The Mexican food commonly served in California is more Vegetable and is much different than that of the kind you get in Texas. Anyway, the idea of eating Mexican food in a place like Alabama, is really a scary thought-based on that not too many years ago, people there never heard of a Tortilla or a Burrito. ;-)) Course now, with the un-protected Southern border with another country-you guys probably have your fair share of illegal aliens living and cooking there.
What you say here is sad but so very true here in South Texas. Did you know that South Texas (more of the Valley region ) has the sad distinction of having the highest rate of Diabetes-in the country. I'd rather cook my own meals so I know what's going into them. I used to eat out alot but, now I do so less than one meal per week-and in the past 2 months, lost 40 pounds.
"32 foot mobilehome-13 people" Trip of a life time ? Sounds like a journey to hell and back ! If all 13 had the refried beans it must have been breath taking !
The reason why most Amis are getting bigger around the waist, is that there are too many "all-you-can-eat" restaurants all over this country. Here in CC, a few all-you-can-eat places I can think of the name of are: Golden Corral (which we have 2 of here), Sirloin Stockade (1 restaurant) Furrs Cafeteria (my fave) 1 establishment-used to have two here, Mandarin Garden Chineese restaurant (all you can eat buffet) about another dozen Chineese all you can eat restaurants here, several Pizza Huts, Mr. Gattis Pizza (aka) Gatti Town, Planet Pizza, several Ci Ci's Pizza shops, Kentucky Fried Chicken (several of--here in town) and God knows what else. Now if I go out to eat, I much prefer going to Montana Mikes, Longhorn, Longhorn Steak and Ale, Town & Country, U&I Restaurant-and places like that where you get a more home-cooked type meal and can also eat half of what is served and can take the rest home in a bag. Thanks to not eating out nearly as much, increasing exercise, I dropped 40 pounds and still losing slowly-in less than 2 months-and no dieting. I stopped drinking sodas, never did eat many sweets, cut drastically back on fried foods, eating more fruits and veggies, and enjoying looking and feeling better.
Heh heh, it was "To Hell and Back" as when we went to Oklahoma, we picked up an 88 yr old 1st cousin once removed, who-all she did was complain. We ended our vacation about 10 or so days earlier than we wanted to--all because this lady wanted to go back home. We could not send her on an airplane as she was deathly scared to fly-never having done so, and we decided not to put her on a bus at that age-so we had no other choice, than to end the vacation early and take her home. You should have seen the sleeping arrangements ;-))
There was a story on the news that certain hospitals could not treat all of their paitients because their operation tables was not designed to handle the patients weight... What is going on here? From an economic point it is easy to grasp. The really sloppy useles fatty food is cheap, wheras proper food is more expensive. In addition we are living in an ever more static mode. Our food is energy rich and our everyday life doesn't use a lot of it. So I guess we are heading for disaster. I guess I am lucky that I have so much of my work outdoors.
Hi Jaeger, one thing I learned when changing my eating habits, was that I could eat much more healthier for about the same price when eating the fast foods or eating in restaurants. If anyone is wanting to drop a few, a healthy drink that I highly suggest in having is called: EAS. The cheapest place to buy them at is any WalMart. You get four 11 ounce containers of this stuff for just under five bucks. These also taste good-and this is coming from a finicky eater too! I think they come in only three flavors: Chocolate/Fudge, French Vanilla (which is my favorite of the three) and Strawberry. Anyway, if wanting to do this diet, you cannot have any bread item because for it to give you the best results; you have to stop or at least slow down your intake of foods that have lots of Carbs (which also means, you can't drink Beer ;-)). These drinks are about 110 calories and 17 grams of protien.
Oatmeal! Toss in some raisins or maple syrup, delicious and filling. Start my morning with it every day before school.
arg oatmeal tastless crap cardboard, at least you are adding something to it. breakfast of wimps in the high mountains but there it is every fricking day I have climbed. it's cheap anyway and if you have bowel p[robs it will blow you out from one end to another. carbs is always a choice for intake, it depends entirely on what your lifestyle is. since I crank on the bike yes I have load up the carbo body big time nearly daily. If i was behind this thing all day I'd be blimped out ready for a stroke Ride Hard !
did a century last week-Saturday -planning one tommorrow, but it looks like rain so maybe 65 or 70m hard
Slip That was what they were talking about on the telly too. Some hospitals did not have special tables, meaning the patients had to travel far to get surgery.
I've never understood people that order a cheeseburger and fries.....then ask for a Diet Pepsi. <scratches head>
Yeah, that's the same crowd that orders the sulfite ridden salad at McDonalds so much preservative and it works well too preserves itself right in your colon. Not big on fast food, I like Bertuccis but that's about it.
Erich, living a healthy lifestyle, you don't buy into the margarine, splenda, preserve ya mit chemicals low cal crusade. I prefer Italy's slow food movement, real non processed food that takes a long time to prepare but oh so good, in moderation of course.
yes i agree with an almost ultra healthy one almost insane at times but that is because of training, now please do not get me wrong I luv good hot home-made Italien meal, my Grandmothers familie is Castelli so yes I know quite well and also a good German Rolladen or Sauerbraten mit Rotkohl und Spatezle und brot, ya gotta have a gut Deutsche Bier with it of course or a nice Spätlese white wine now I'm hungry dang it ........
I come from an Irish family......I guess that explains why I eat canned food. This talk has made me hungry as well Erich!
