Hi everyone, My name's solarfox, and I am a new member. I live in VA in the USA. I'm 17 and have studied WWII extensively, at least for my age, and have joined to continue my education through discussion and sharing of knowledge. I love What-if scenarios. At my school we have to do a Senior Project, which could range from "How to Survive in the Wilderness (Like Bear Grylls)", "How to Prepare Sushi", "Earning a pilots Licensce" and others. Mine is Titled: "World War II: If the Victors had Lost. A Counterfactual History Study in the Battles of Dunkirk, Tobruk, and Tarawa". Thus I am wondering if anyone knows veterans of those battles, preferebly Dunkirk and Tobruk( as I already have one from Tarawa to interview - Bob Hemmings anyone?) And of course, any good books or videos on those that could help me explain how the Germans could have held Tobruk, or How the Panzers and the wermacht could have finished off the BEF at the port of Dunkirk, and finnally how the Japanese could have won at Tarawa. What would the implications for the future have been. Thanks for responding and for your time, I will post in the future. -Solarfox
Oh no not another one. Welcome to the site , I know a Dunkirk Veteran, poor chap has Alzheimer's though.
Hey, Wow, lots of people responded to little ole me. That's great. The Dunkirk vet...dang! Well, that's life. If only i had been born ten years earlier...course that means i would been through the 80s and the Gulf, and couuld have voted against bush................ Well, soon i will begin gathering a lot of info. Anyone know a member of this forum who I could be directed to that knows alot about what-ifs or who is a what-if maniac who even who likes to study those battles i mentioned? That would be terrific! Thanks!
Solar fox, I've been to Dunkirk a few times, here's some photos on my thread on Otto's other Forum. My wife's Grandad came off the Mole there, he died just a few moths before we got married in 1995 though. Hope the Mod's don't mind me plugging Ww2Talk. We've a few Dunkirk-nerds over there. Welcome! I'm always glad to see young people who are interested in history in general and World War II in particular! You might try using the Forum Jump at the bottom of the page and jumping to the What If? forum or searching it for the particular battles you are searching. Michelle
Wow, those pics were great Wessex. I have sifted through the old What -if threads and they were lacking in Tobruk, Tarawa and few Dunkirk threads. So i will eventually be spitting out a few ideas. It also saddens me that so many young people don't either care about history or even care to really learn about it . I wish there were more kids my age to talk to about it, but oh well!
