I'm currently working on a movie during the Battle of Britain. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the kill/loss ratio was for the Spitfires against the Germans. In the movie, I have a squad of 3 knock out 17 Stukas with only one loss. Is that pushing it? Keep in mind that movies exaggerate, but even for a movie, is 17:1 too much? If it is, would anyone care?
Don't have the facts but if the Stukas were not escorted, they were sitting ducks so your ratio is close to correct. I would dispute the one loss though. Don't know if there is any record of stukas downing RAF fighters. Good luck
If you want an accurate movie then have Hawker Hurricanes shooting down Stukas. They shot down the most German aircraft, not Spitfires. Also have some ground AA fire shooting down the Stukas. By the way where are you getting these Stukas, Spitfires and perhaps Hurricanes ????
Far just a few bucks I can remake cockpits of Spitfires and Stukas for my friends and I to be in for the film. We're going to green screen the windows so we can have the sky in the background and clouds passing. For the planes I have a 1/18 scale Spitfire and two Stukas. Hurricanes in that scale are expensive, which is one reason why I'm sticking to Spitfires, and the other is because my Granddad was in the RAF with the Spitfires, so I want to use them. The miniatures will be filmed on a green screen as well and I'll stick in backgrounds later. And thanks for the help guys!
